Hi all, I have bought my 1995 318Ti for 4 months, and drove over 900 miles. Do I need to do maintance now? such as changing oil or so? BTW, from the computer, I read that the gas consuming is about 34mpg. It still sounds good, isn't it? Thanks --Dake | | | 07-26-2007, 10:05 PM | #2 | Junior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: airdrie, scotland Posts: 9 | the display on your dash should tell you when the oil/inspection is due ? | | | 07-26-2007, 10:15 PM | #3 | Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: NY Long Island Posts: 35 | No, from the dash board, I read nothing like checking engine or oil inspection. | | | 07-26-2007, 10:27 PM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: airdrie, scotland Posts: 9 | strange usualy under the speedo you have a small display with green bars on it one side oil other side inspection when the green lights deplete over time going to red then you get the work done i have seen this on the 95 tds model as well thought it was a standard thing with bmws.let me know | | | 07-26-2007, 10:29 PM | #5 | Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: NY Long Island Posts: 35 | OK, i will check it. great thanks!! | | | 07-26-2007, 11:03 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Stamford, CT <-> Boston, MA Posts: 1,393 | Those green bars are pretty useless imo. They're calculated on a certain formula that measures how far you've traveled and on what engine temp you traveled on. When it reaches yellow it's time for service (which usually includes an oil change or a recommended inspection). What I have done (I've owned my car for about 2 months) is, an oil change after seafoaming the engine (Mobil 1 0W-40) and I took the car to the BMW dealership for a "Safety Inspection". That was about $117 and they did a complimentary Oil Light reset (yay?). Anyways, I think the intervals on the oil light are too far apart, and I plan on doing an oil change every 5K miles or time permitting. __________________ BMWCCA #403399 2012 Mini Cooper S Clubman, 6-Speed Loaded 2001 325xi, Winter Package, 5-Speed Traded 1998 318ti, Active, Automatic, TOTAL LOSS R.I.P. 10/20/08 Bilstein Sport Shocks/Struts . Engine temp is a big factor in engine wear. I calculate mileage, but I change the oil well before it's due. Filter and a top off at 4500, full synth change at 9k. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Thread Tools | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
