Default Sun Roof Problems

I own a 1996 318 TI, I've had this on going problem with my sunroof. It seems to have a mind of it's own as to when it's going to open or close. The result is I don't use it, and that's a drag in the summer time. Sometimes I hit the switch and it opens fine, it's the closing part that can be a problem. It will close a little bit then stop. I hit open it moves a little, then hit close it moves a little then stops. I turn the car off, restart it, try the switch again it closes a little, then stops or sometimes closes all together. I don't want to be stuck with an open sun roof during a frequent summer thunder storm so I leave it closed. Can anyone offer some insight as to what might be causing this condition? Thanks in advance Jayster9

is it only stopping at one point on the track or is it stopping multiple times at random points? the sunroofs do have a built in point where they stop pretty far back on the track before opening all the way

sorry, my wording on that is less than perfect but I think I got what I was trying to say across

It stops where ever it wants, doesn't seem to be in any particular spot, but I have to admit I wasn't looking for that. But I'm pretty certain it happens at random spots. Sometimes it seems as though the signal coming from there switch is compromised. Perhaps a simple wiring problem?

P.S. Your ride looks awesome bro.

thanks if it's just happening at random spots you may need to add grease to the sunroof track, I have no clue how to do that so I guess another member will need to answer that
