Manuals have been my only cars. I don't like the acceleration responses I get out of automatic cars; never enough gas when I want it where I want it, only too little or too much. They've certainly got their perks and are definitely easier to learn, but I like drive the car everywhere, not the other way around. My buddy likes paddle shifters, but he's also getting an Audi =P. Plus on a daily basis, it's much harder to be a distracted driver when you're thinking about what speed and gear you're in and what's a quarter mile up the road.

I have a 1995 auto ti, I wish it was manual. It's very sluggish from a stand still but once it gets going i have no complaints. It was $800 so i can't complain much

I have a clean 1996 Boston Green ti with the california fold-back canvas roof and a manual. Minimal rust too. When I found it I couldn't say no.

I think that it is easier to find a nice example with an automatic than with a manual.

Interestingly your manual transmission uses automatic transmission fluid. I use Castrol Dextron IV Synthetic. If it were mine I would change the transmission oil and the filter. I would also change the differential oil using Castrol Synthetic 75-90 weight gear oil. Change both about every 36,000 miles, IMO. Cheers, John

Thanks for the answer.
I´m looking in real oem but can't find the code for the transmission filter. Do you knew it?

1996 cali top here, its an auto but with the built up Grand National motor and trans its quite a blast. Way better than the stock auto and M44 combo it started life with

Hi I'm new to the forum and new to the car.

I bought my 1995 318ti with 92xxx miles in July and I have been loving it so far. I have the automatic(wish I had gotten the manual but I got a good deal ) but I noticed there is a manual switch as well as a 1st 2nd and 3rd gear option.

I have not touched it yet but was wondering if that switch is usable for shifting low gears or if it is more of a utility feature for keeping RPMs high on snow, steep grades etc.

Also what do you guys think about performance upgrades on an automatic transmission?

Thanks in advance. I have little experience with cars but am excited to get started!

i'm relatively new to the forum but my 97 318ti is my third manual car to the stable. I currently daily a 96 2dr 5-speed RAV4 and have a 91 5-speed Miata i cruise around in on the weekends.

i learned how to drive a manual in my pop's 03 S2000. Boy was that alil scary but when i finally got the hang of it i couldn't get enough of driving a manual. Hence why all my cars are manual now. Btw, i live in NYC and commute in one of the worst traffic everyday morning and night.
