Default wheel and tire set ups for preformance not looks

so much on here, not actual set up sticky and tech specs or recommendations. I have researched till my head hurts on what is a good set up for my car. looking at quite a volley between square vs staggered, 17" vs 18" ect. It would be great if we had a section that has actual tech specs on what set up works and what mods need to be done to fit " X Y and Z" wheel set ups. If there is one and I missed it, can some one direct me please, and not what wheel fits my car. I know what wheel fits my car, just interested in optimizing my set up.

When I think of performance, I think of a light rim and sticky rubber.

For rubber, something like RS3's, ZII's, Rivals or similar seem to be the most popular choices. The less aggressive V12's or Conti DW's don't give as much ultimate grip but are better for daily driving duties. 225/50/16 works well but I believe the E36 can fit 245/40/17 underneath with the proper offsets. Just use a tire diameter calculator to figure out the proper width and profile you want.

I think 16's or 17's on the E36 is the best wheel diameter. Light brands are Apex, D Force, BBS, Kosei, TRMotorsports and Racing Dynamics. Usually, don't get an ET higher than 45 or else your wheel may rub the strut, lower offsets may be needed if you have coilovers. I am looking at a 16x7 et35 wheel that only weighs 15 lbs. Pair that with a grippy 225/50/16 tire and you'll be good to go.

im looking at staggered 8 and 9, offset is around 37mm front, and 33mm rear
Im having a hard time not wanting an 18" wheel though, raising the car back up to just below stock. I have 17"x7 on there at the moment, going into a whole suspension rebuild, beefier sway in front and rear, H&R sport springs, and a tune from Midnight, no so much a track car as a touring car, but I do drive it hard where I live, and on the HWY. so street for the most part, but a lot of twisties here and where I go in vt, NH and ME

Just an fyi...I get quicker steering response from my 15" oem steelies than from my set of 17" DSI's. Both are shod in all weather tires.

Yeah, I like my 15in. style 36 wheels better then my style 55 in 16inch mags . Riding on 205 60 15. I also have a set of kosei k1 that I havent yet tried, but wont be going over 205 55 16 there. Its just a 4 cyl.. my 15 in set come in at 34.5lbs compared to 42 with the 16in. big difference, Now i can spin my wheels if I want to. Kosei should bring me about 37lbs with tires. I would think your set up would be nice for looks, not performance, unless you've got a s54 ;-)

I have style 17x7.5 68's. Not too bad at 21.5lbs. Seem to be a pretty strong rim for street use. 205/50R17 Sumitomo HTR III. Ok on the track, take a while to get greasy. Decent traction. No 180 treadwear tire, but they are cheap!

Currently I'm riding on 8.5x18 et43 ACS wheels with 225/40/18 Pilot Sport PS2 rubber. Takes a bit of inner fender roll for everything to fit happily

Handling is great for aggressive street driving, albeit a little rough with the lower profile tires. I'd love to get it on the track and see how it feels pushed to the limit, though I think it would be superb.

looking at Kosei, they have a 17x8 15.4 lb wheel at 42 off set. ARC-8 have been mentioned, they run 17.8 lb at the same size
