My mechanic says that my heater core is broken. But from what I understand is that when a heater core is broken the coolant leaks into the car, but my coolant is leaking from middle under the car. is this common too? __________________ | | | 05-08-2010, 06:44 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2008 Location: CORONA, Ca Posts: 123 | Soo my mechanic says its not the heating core, but there is a plastic thing cracked behind the engine and thats where the coolant is leaking from. The reason is that there is a drain from the heater box to the bottom of the car above the transmission. Depending of the year of your car, you may or may not have the plastic y-fitting. 95 ti's don't have it, but later years do. There is another twin pipe plastic fitting which leads to your heater core. Looks like this: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...63&hg=64&fg=15 If it turns out to be the heater core, thank your lucky stars it's a ti. A Dash-ectomy is not required to replace it. | | | 10-20-2010, 08:16 AM | #7 | Member Join Date: May 2010 Location: Los Angeles Posts: 55 | does anyone know the part number to the 2 hoses that run from the firewall (from heater core) to the valves? I am installing the new heater core, but I dont think i have the 2 hoses since the previous owner bypassed the broken heater core. thanks. __________________ '97 318ti Active; '05 330ci ZHP | | | 05-16-2012, 04:54 PM | #8 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2010 Location: canada Posts: 16 | Quote: Originally Posted by eurohb not your heater core if is leaking into your engine bay. Remove two bolts, pull y pipe off, put new pipe, reconnect pipe fill some coolant have a beer. __________________ V2 in progress.
