So here is my question - which wheels do you prefer on my car? And do the RD RGR's look good to you even if you prefer the DSI's? Racing Dynamics RGR's (can get a set local for cheap) or BMW Motorsport DSI's (current setup) | | | 03-12-2008, 06:41 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Eugene Oregon Posts: 6,182 | i would say go for the new set.. adds a new look and i think they are great wheels! __________________ -Josh Sold-1995 318ti, Club Sport, Hellrot Sold-1996 318ti, Active Model, Boston Green Current- 1995 318ti, sport model, schwartz | | | 03-12-2008, 06:46 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2006 Location: Boston, MA Posts: 1,152 | I like the DS1 better or the OEM sport 16" for your ti better than RD. DS1 is one of my favorite and own a set too. I use P21 to clean the wheels. Why you like 16 over 17? Too firm for your daily driving? | | | 03-12-2008, 06:53 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: Southern California Posts: 208 | The first picture is a shop with the Racing Dynamics RGR's - not OEM sports. DSI's are one of my favorite wheels, but I'm getting bored of them. And since my car is pretty low I have a bit of a rubbing issue with 215/45/17's if I turn my front wheels all the way. I think with 205/45/16's I won't have that problem any more. I would also like 16's to improve my acceleration a bit and tires are a bit less expensive. I have used different wheel cleaners, and they all work pretty well, but there is still a lot of "digging" to get the DSI's clean. | | | 03-12-2008, 07:24 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Denver, Colorado Posts: 3,212 | I recently got RD rims but they are not like yours so far I'm happy with the RD rims. | | | 03-12-2008, 07:31 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: NJ Posts: 1,625 | ds1s all the way. | | | 03-12-2008, 07:46 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Land of the Vikings Posts: 2,700 | ds1´s for me too __________________ Vin Number decode and Retrofit Pdfs Available Free ! Since your car is a hellrot I suggest that you get them re-done in black or gun metal and it will give your ride a totally different look. | | | 03-12-2008, 07:59 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Eugene Oregon Posts: 6,182 | ohh please do get them coated in gun metal!! that would be amazing! __________________ -Josh Sold-1995 318ti, Club Sport, Hellrot Sold-1996 318ti, Active Model, Boston Green Current- 1995 318ti, sport model, schwartz | | | 03-12-2008, 08:11 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Florida Posts: 2,525 | I'd get your alignment checked if you are rubbing with 215/45/17's. I run a similar size wheel with almost 3.5 degrees of negative camber and don't have any rubbing issues. Also no issues with my camber setup for street use at something like 1.5 degrees... I do use a 5mm spacer up front, but I had no rubbing issues before the spacers either. I'd also make sure the smaller wheels are actually lighter. I read a review recently that 6-9 pounds per wheel can make as much as a 5-7rwhp difference. So lighter wheels do help. Also, are your DS1's real? I didn't realize it, but there are a lot of knockoffs that still imprint the wheels. They should have the motorsport imprint and a part/serial number printed into them. Some of the knock off motorsport wheels are much heavier than the real thing. | | | 03-12-2008, 08:14 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: Damascus, Maryland Posts: 434 | I think five spokes of most any kind fit the ti better than anything else. The ti is a stocky little car and five spokes fit its 'attitude.' I like the RD's partially because they look like a sexier version of the OE sport wheels. +1 for the better acceleration comment...I do notice a little difference when switching my stock sports with the 17" style 68's. Either way your golden, but aesthetics aside, you should probably make a decision based more on whats best for your car and your budget. If your rubbin with the 17's and its cheaper to maintain the 16's, I'd go for the 16's. THEN AGAIN...it is a BMW. I guess if you really cared about budget you'd be driving a Geo Metro. But I digress...In the end I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever decision you make. Consider yourself lucky to have to choose between two sets of wheels that nice :P By the way..I'm LOVING the ti in Hellrot. Looks hotttt! P.S. - Midget your new ClubSport is so f*cking sweet. __________________ | | | 03-12-2008, 08:38 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Eugene Oregon Posts: 6,182 | Quote: Originally Posted by BakeR318 I think five spokes of most any kind fit the ti better than anything else. Other than that I don't have an issue, and the back wheels never rub. I have H&R coilovers and would like to go a little bit lower than I already am, but the 17's don't allow me to. If I get the 16's I can go lower, I'd be a little bit faster, my speedometer would be more accurate, and I could give my car a new look. The tires on the DSI's still have a lot of life left, so buying new tires is a waste of $$$ IMO. I'd rather spend the $$$ on new tires and re-finishing of the RGR's. I was just curious as to what people thought of the Racing Dynamics wheels vs. the M3 wheels (which are real and have the Motorsport stamp) I am not a fan of black/gunmetal wheels except for 2 piece ones with a polished lip on a black car. | | | 03-12-2008, 09:15 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: Damascus, Maryland Posts: 434 | +1 on the black wheel/polished lip. Think it looks a bit trashy when its all black. I'm a fan of contrasty styling and all, but I can't help but think a car with black BBS (or any, really) wheels, seen from peripheral vision, is rolling on steel wheels. __________________ | | | 03-12-2008, 09:18 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2007 Location: Eugene Oregon Posts: 6,182 | well you can always buy the rd's and then sell your ds1's and cover the cost of the new wheels. or keep them incase you wanna go back to them some day. __________________ -Josh Sold-1995 318ti, Club Sport, Hellrot Sold-1996 318ti, Active Model, Boston Green Current- 1995 318ti, sport model, schwartz | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | Similar Threads | Thread | Thread Starter | Forum | Replies | Last Post | M3 interior install prob | FuMa | Interior and ICE | 5 | 06-17-2004 07:04 AM | |
