I am curious how many swapped ti's swapped the tranny to an M3/328 unit when the 6 cyl went in?

Me neither.

Holding out for a six-speed...

I can report the ti tranny can take the abuse after over 5 years.

It's also a bit lighter too.

I would like to go 6 speed eventually but I found a dirt cheap 01 M Coupe tranny with 40k miles. I could not pass it up.

Does your manual cover what drive shaft I will need with that? I think it does.

Yep.

thee is a chart with lengths, part numbers and how to measure to see which one you need, regardless of engine, transmission or diff you finally end up with.

It was easier that way...

I'm just wondering, do you guys know if the 328 and m3 driveshaft with the ZF tranny are the same? The 4 bolt driveshaft that is.

should be. cross check the part #s to be sure.

I also used a 328 ZF with me M52 swap with M3 sedan drive shaft, just had to extend it a little bit. Typically 328 ZFs are less abused then M3 ZFs previously owned by boyracer kids

I used a M

Thanks for the reply!

I have a ZF trans from a low mileage s54 m coupe that I'll be using with my M52 b25 swap. From my research both driveshafts from the M3 and 328 are the same length but they do have different part numbers. I believe that's from the 4 bolt and 6 bolt difference. So it should be okay. I have a 328 driveshaft that is 4 bolt so I'm assuming it should work, the only thing I'm worried about is that the guibo on the trans is probably thicker than the non m. So I might have to shorten the driveshaft.

I'll chime in when I have it done, which should be soon!

Just replace the guibo with a matching one for the drive shaft
