Default manual transmission fluid?

does anyone know if the stock Getrag takes ATF or MTF? my dad wants to change it in my car but I'm not sure which to use, bavauto says that a manual can use either one and I'm too lazy to go get my owners manual

from what I've found searching I think it takes ATF but it says that it's MTF on earlier cars, I'm not sure if 95 is old enough to use MTF

we use redline mtf in all of our manuals, but it does result in a little more "sporty" feeling shifting, its not as smooth as using the atf sometimes

well my dad made me go out and check my owners manual anyway, it calls for ATF so that's what we got, we did get the Redline stuff though

It's ATF for the earlier cars and MTF for the later cars. You got the right stuff. There should also be a sticker/tag on the trans that says what to use.

I run redline MTL on my 95 getrag. The transmission is quieter than if I use the BMW spec fluid.
