There was a petition in Maryland several years ago.
The pluses of a one plate state, half the space needed for license plate inventory. Cost of plates cut in half yet the fee remains the same.

In the event of an accident, the front license plate is usually left behind.

Yeah, it just doesn't make any sense. Especially since manufacturers have spent a lot more time and resources lately designing the front of their vehicles to be more friendly in the event of a pedestrian impact. I would imagine front plates put all that research to waste.
I have decided to take the risk and have already removed my front plate anyways.

Some one needs to do a study and prove that front plates hurt aerodynamics thus hurting mpg. Then use that to change the minds of the "green" states.
