Yeeha!! So finally after months of waiting for parts & mechanical issues, my 328ti is ready to hit the road. Here’s a list of items, all from a ’97 Z3 roadster donor (RIP). M52 2.8 aluminum block engine w/low miles & matching ZH 5 speed trans, Comforti Shark injector for hspwr & torque upgrade, 3.15 LS dif, exhaust, complete rear sub frame, X-brace, front sway bar & steering rack all from the Z3. New aluminum radiator and cooling kit. New F1 Racing stage 2 clutch and lightweight flywheel. New tie rods, shock mounts, H&R sport springs, Bilstien sport F&R, M3 front bumper, black front grills, 15 lb 17” SSR Comp wheels & new 225X17 Hankook V12’s, E46 330i front brake setup, Euro 3 spoke steering wheel w/airbag, new Sony head unit w/HD radio, new ZHP short shifter knob, new Italian black leather with red stitching shifter & e-brake covers, HID head & LED interior lights, & finally black CF emblems. I must say, I’m in LOVE all over again. Coming from the motorcycle world and being a middle aged adrenalin junkie, this is one FUN car to drive! Thanks to all of you that helped out with answering my questions including J!m and his indispensable ti manual. Alum block M52 is what I have been wanting to do too. Interesting to see how much farther the Z3 hubs push the wheels out. Do you know if it is just the hubs doing that or maybe the trailing arms as well? I've read different things about the various trailing arms. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 11-04-2011, 11:59 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2010 Location: Potomac Falls VA DMV Posts: 1,794 | Nice! They appear to be about 1.5 inches wider that the ti's. I took the car to Bill at Bimmerclinic here in NJ and he told me the same thing. Will be swapping them out in the next week. I'm glad the manual helped you out on the job. As to the rear hubs, I left the M Roadster hubs in place, and fit 275's with a minor roll. What is significant is that the tires nearly rub the shock bodies, so check internal clearance as well as external when you start swapping parts around. | | | 12-14-2011, 11:38 PM | #7 | Member Join Date: Dec 2011 Location: Helsinki Posts: 44 | Well done. Where did you get your short shifter knob? Plenty of power for a ti, plus more dependability and less maintenance than a 3.2 M powerplant. The newer 3.0 motor would be another good choice. | | | 12-15-2011, 04:20 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2010 Location: Southwest England Posts: 379 | I always wondered what the M54B22 from the e46 320i would be like in our cars, only 170hp stock but it's a peachy small 6-pot, really refined but sings when opened up. | | | 12-15-2011, 04:30 AM | #13 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | Looks fantastic! | | | 12-15-2011, 03:50 PM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2011 Location: northampton Posts: 129 | WOW!! beautiful. great work | | | 12-15-2011, 05:30 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2011 Location: NJ USA Posts: 159 | More help needed Alright, so I tried fitting an e36 325/328 hubs but they did not fit, neither did the smaller ti hubs. So I'm back to square one: Wheels are sticking out further than the wheel wells/fenders with the wider Z3 hubs. Remember, I have the whole Z3 sub frame assembly. The rear wheels on the car now are the SSR Comps with a whopping +44 offset. Any suggestions? I really haven't seen any larger offset than what I already have. I'll post a picture from above so you can see how much it sticks out. I would have to not only roll the fenders but also pull. I need 3/4 to 1 inch of clearance to not rub. Thanks in advance with any ideas. Quote: Originally Posted by RCV7 Pretty sure it's just the hubs. They appear to be about 1.5 inches wider that the ti's.
