Default OBD2 to OBD1 swap

Looking to buy a 96 318ti that will basically a shell for a race car. It is an auto transmission car. I have access to a complete 318i sedan with a manual that is an OBD1 car. We would be swapping the entire engine, trans, ECU and harness.
Is there any reason that the OBD1 set up will not work in a 1996 chassis. We would like to retain gauge function along with ABS. We will not be retaining the traction control system.

Correct me if I'm wrong but obd2 to obd1 is just on the engine and management.
I slung a 98 obd2 m52b28 in my 94 obd1 compact 316 the only problem I had was at the gauge cluster with the abs light but that was down to using a 6 cylinder cluster and the abs wiring changed slightly only had to add 1 cable.
With yours as there 4 cylinder clocks I don't think there will be a problem. The engine loom all goes to one or two big plugs.

If it's a race car, buy an electromotive tecm ecu and then you can do whatever you want. Use any e36, 6 cal harness to make it work. Tell them John from Mike Johns sent ya.
