Default Dimensions and weight of our Engines (bmw m44 / m42) and any others you may know

I have a good idea of how much shipping costs, however, I've found a m44 in Cali that the guy is willing to sell to me if I arrange all the shipping details. I want to call Fedex/UPS/DHL and get a couple quotes, but likely they'll want dimensions and weight. I can give rough dimensions on l x w x h but I'm not too sure on the weight.

I figure this thread will be handy to have in the future. . .at the very least just for my benefit

Getting one all the way from cali? It seems like there should probably be one closer to you. Check junk yards yet?

Not yet. I'm going to have to find some time to do that this week. However, if that doesn't work out, I'd like to be able to follow through on that engine pretty quickly.

I'm also a bit worried about picking one out of a junkyard. Is there any way I can go about verifying that it would run ok before spending the cash?

I've contacted some of the forum guys who are "closer" who've indicated they had m44s for sale, but no responses yet.

If you do have it shipped, get a quote from FreightQuote.com. I got a very good price from them for shipping a 944 Turbo motor a few years ago...

Most junkyards will guarantee their parts, meaning if it doesn't work, they'll replace it. That's not to say that it won't blow up on you two or three weeks down the road, but atleast you have a little security knowing that they'll either replace it or give your money back. Don't quote me on that, it's just what I've experienced in the past. Make sure you get it in writing as your junkyards may have different policies.
