Mine seemed to be super loose compared to how I thought they would fit. I had a replacement set sent and they fit the same. The bitch clip fits nice and snug in them but I thought they would fit tight in the spot on the trans and tight into the carrier

Yeah I must admit I did think I could have fitted better, Mine does still have a bit of play on the trans, But at the same time I think its much better than the standard one for movement I just hope it lasts as it also seemed a bit plastic to me.

They're made out of delrin usually so they are basically solid plastic=) The wear characteristics of delrin are good so you won't have to worry about it wearing out any time soon. They use delrin to make solid subframe bushings and other suspension bushings too.

Well kind of regretting starting this haha it's coming along nicely now though, started to clean up the bay and grind all the unneeded brackets off, got one side smoothed and primed.

Also brought a tiny 1l washer bottle and fabricated a little bracket to relocated it to where the battery used to sit

I also decided I wanted to tuck the wires the other side for a clean look, took me an entire day feeding each wire through the inner wing extending and soldering each one The wires now come out the side of the fuse box and in to the inner wing.

Also brought the final poly bushes for the front arb

I'm glad I took the time to tuck the wires now and chop all the brackets hopefully just a bit more smoothing and can hopefully get it painted ready for the engine

Taking a long time to get the bay painted due to not being able to spend much time at the lockup however managed to get a coat of paint on it over the weekend

Still needs another coat and lacquer but will hopefully look better than the silver anyway

Also decided against the standard rad and brought a direnza alloy rad

Previous to the paint I also had to cut out my arb mount and drill out a snapped stud, I cut a little rectangle in the side to get access and cleared the packed mud out! Then cleaned it up put a bolt through from the inside and welded it in place then welded the little panel back up and ground it flat

Also is it wrong i'm really enjoying driving my girlfriends mx5 at the moment !? Haha

Also got bored last night and thought I would try and make a battery tray to practice welding it's not perfect by any means but I'm quite proud of how it turned out

Finally got the last layer done and the lacquer. It came out pretty well considering it was done with rattle cans lol haven't looked at it in the day light yet though to discover the bits I've probably missed haha

Default Mike's e36 Compact Build Thread

Made up a little bracket for the positive box to connect to, most people just tuck it down and leave it, but thought a bracket would look much neater.

Also made another little bracket to hold the electric fan controller, It looks pretty neat and is out of site but can still get to it to adjust if needed

Also got some of the front and the rad bolted up

Default Mike's e36 Compact Build Thread

Well I finally got round to buying the oil and coolant to try and start it, I then spent half a day trying to figure out why it wouldn't start… for some reason it wasn't getting a spark or any fuel, I automatically thought it was to do with the EWS that had been deleted thought it might not have worked or something, Anyway after a few tests I found the problem. The positive cable that came from two relays on the other side of the bay wasn't getting a live from where it was on the positive junction box for some reason so I drilled the little eye ring terminal out and hooked it up with the main battery cable and first turn of the key it fired straight up!

Then I had to try and bleed the rad out… I never thought it was be such a hard task lol! I got the front as high as possible and ran it up to temp and after a couple of hours of messing around it finally bled out and the heaters were blowing hot air. Oh and my electric Fan controller worked perfectly the fan kicks in when I need it too, But I need to rewire it to a switched Live and it stays on far too long after I turned it off lol.

Got it back on the ground last night and drove it outside, the clutch still needs bleeding out some more I think but it feels great! Developed another issue with the steering column though, the steering wheel moves up and down for some reason there it a lot of play in it, need to have a better look as to why it’s doing it.

Now all that’s really left to do is get an exhaust made, Bolt the battery down and make that look tidy then MOT and Tax £££ Its not far from seeing the road again though I don’t think

Oh I also changed my fuel filter after laying underneath and seeing the state of it!

Thanks I'm going to have one custom made, well only the rear section the front half with the cats ect all bolts up, its basically just a two to one adapter and a back box I need, was going to have a go myself but thought I would just get a nice stainless one made properly that I'm not going to be picking off the floor all the time haha
