Thumbs up Approaching 190k Miles

Just wanted to get a general opinion as to what I should have inspected/changed as I approach 190,000 miles, and 200,000 around the corner.

Thanks!

Very hard and broad question to ask. It depends on prior maintenance and if there is anything wrong with it currently.

There is nothing wrong with the car at all, I make sure to do any repair needed. As far as what my mechanic tells me, the car is in fantastic shape... but I'd like to give him a list of things to inspect and/or replace if needed.

I personally have not, but I would imagine that it would have had to be done by now?

have him check rear ball joints and bushings.
and yes cooling pieces is a must even if they havent given you any troubles. only way to bypass this is if previous owner fixed them already.

check power steering fluid, brake fluid, clutch fluid to see if they need to be flushed. as well as the anti-freeze

well if your trying to save yourself a huge headache id check into it as much as i could .. they are pretty common problem .. kinda a pain in the ass to replace but so much better if you do it before it breaks and you get stranded ..

dont know if you ever use it or not .. but do you ever sea foam your car ?

I definitely will look into the cooling situation, if I'm not mistaken, the previous owner did it.

As for sea foam, I've never personally used it or know someone who has, although it seems to have mixed reviews on forums.

At 200k miles.....

Like previous members have stated check the:
1) control arm bushings
2) rear sub-frame mounts/bushings
3) Essentially, go to your mechanic and say, "Check all suspension/steering components [i.e. trailing arm bushings, ball joints, etc.]
4) water pump [better do it now rather than later. Do this along with coolant.
5) checking transmission/differential, power steering fluid
6) I don't think it is really necessary to do brake and coolant if you are following the prescribed 2,3 year plan, respectively for flushing them.
7) Ground wire for battery.

There is a slew of other things to check at 200k miles. However, as previously stated it really depends on how the car has been taken care of and how thorough you wish to be? If it were me I would pretty much check everything / do everything just so that I could have a fresh clean slate when I break the 200k barrier and insure another happy 40k miles. Furthermore, at 200k you are coming up on Inspection II.

All hinges should be greased. Window guide rails should be re-greased. Check your A/C system as well.

Anyways....
