I did not use this method. I'm sure it can be done this way but I assure you it will take longer to get that pin in the flywheel lock than it will to tighten the nut down. Especially if you have never used the FW lock before.
Put your transmission in 4th gear then used a strap wrench on the output flange. I had to buy a 12 point deep drive socket to get at the nut. It was a bear to find, but Advanced had it in stock.
