Default ? regarding wheels/tires

Good morning,

I have an opportunity to get free wheels/tires for my base 97 318ti. They are 225/50R/16 91v, Yokaham avid v4. Wheels have 5 lugs. Nothing fancy. Looks like alloy with 5 wide spokes

As I am as "smart as a rock" when it comes to cars, please let me know if these will work. I am having a hell of a time posting a pic. Apparently my pic is too large to upload, even after I resize it. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks!

It's not so much the tire size but the offset and pattern of the wheels.

the tires are an ok size. To know if the wheels will fit, we'd need to know the offset and bolt pattern.

The offset is the distance from center the flange that touches the hub is. The bolt pattern would be the number of holes x the distance between them. We need around a +40mm offset and 5x120 bolt pattern.

I am getting the above msg when I try to upload. Sorry, I am not the most savy person when it comes to computers.

Please disregard my last post. After many tries, I was finally able to upload 3 pic of the tires in question. Please take a look at them and let me know if you can tell if they will work. Thanks!

Those wheels are pretty nice and the tires look like they are in great shape. If you know what car they were on before, that would be one good way to get the bolt pattern and offset nailed down. One other way to find out, if they are FREE is to take them and try them on. If they are not a fit, you can always get wheels that fit later and you would already have those good tires. The tires alone are proabably at least worth a couple of hundred. You could look for a place to swap wheels for some that fit too. You can't beat FREE!! It gives you so many options.

Thank you for replying.........Yes they are free, from my brother. They were initially on a VW Jetta. Unfortunately, they are in NY and the only way I would know if they would fit would be to drive up there, have them put on and see if it is a good fit. You are right, "free" is a great price.

Regardless.......thank you all for your help.

I doubt that they would fit if it came off a Jetta. The VW bolt pattern is too small. I googled it and it loks like it is 5x100mm, and once you know that the bolt pattern is wrong, the offset is a moot point.

Thanks a bunch. You probably saved me a 400 mile RT to NY.
