But my boss says it is a sports steering wheel and has controls on it, his brother owns the wheel. Now this sounds like it comes from a e46 maybe so do they fit on a e36 and is it possible to wire up the controls. Also, what are the controls usually they are just stereo controls usually right? I'm just asking incase someone knows for sure that it won't fit if it is newer, or if someone knows if all steering wheels are interchangable, ec. | | | 01-19-2006, 05:56 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Laguna Beach Posts: 357 | Controls on Wheel The E46 M3 wheel has volume up/down, station/cd up/down, Cruise Controls, phone answer at least. | | | 01-19-2006, 06:16 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: bris Posts: 287 | thanks so do e46 wheels fit?? Will i be able to wire up the airbag that comes with it? would I be able to wire up the volume controls, I have a aftermarket sony head deck. I don't have cruise control or built in phone but i could install those i guess later. i dont htink i would buy it if i could only have it installed with the airbag and no controls working. I d feel a bit stupid. | | | 01-19-2006, 09:21 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2005 Location: UK Posts: 312 | Never heard of anyone doing this before, it would be a way cool mod if you can pull it off. I dont see any reason why the airbag shouldn't just be plug n play but dont take my word of it. Could you not 'borrow' the wheel to see if it fits before buying it? As far as controlling your headunit it depends what model you have. Sony do make interfaces for their newer headunits http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/prod...4837902214ad89 | | | 01-19-2006, 10:38 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2005 Location: UK Posts: 312 | well, after a bit of searching (this caught my interest), I've found out it can be done but it's not just a straight bolt-in mod. The E46 airbag is a dual stage affair so the wiring is not the same as our cars. I dare say it could be wired up to work but by its very nature,it's going to be hard to test. It may be possible to fit a E36 airbag in the wheel, hard to say without having both parts side by side. Your also going to have issues with the slipring - not enough channels on the e36 & the e46 one is too thick.
