I have a 99 ti with a blown passenger door air bag Codes are: 25 - passenger seat occupancy sensor 5 - firing circuit driver pretensioner 17 - passenger seat belt switch 17 - passenger seat belt switch 9 - firing circuit right side airbag 1 - ecu internal fault now obviously i need a new air bag for the passenger door, possibly a passenger seat occupancy sensor, and passenger seat belt switch in the belt buckle i assume, so new buckle assembly to start with and a new air bag and see what codes go away, since some codes can be related to each other. Now the question, some say the ecu needs to just be reprogrammed, and other say it cannot be reprogrammed so has to be replaced, has anyone done work on the SRS system in the 3 series? also where is the driver pretensioner located? thanks. | | | 02-09-2015, 04:30 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Globally Posts: 1,162 | From what I was told sometime ago It can be reprogrammed. The pretensioner is on the buckle assembly on the inner rail of the seat. with that 1 code for a fault it might not reset. How bad of an impact was it? | | | 02-10-2015, 02:21 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2009 Location: san jose Posts: 425 | Quote: Originally Posted by performanceisland I have a 99 ti with a blown passenger door air bag Codes are: 25 - passenger seat occupancy sensor 5 - firing circuit driver pretensioner 17 - passenger seat belt switch 17 - passenger seat belt switch 9 - firing circuit right side airbag 1 - ecu internal fault now obviously i need a new air bag for the passenger door, possibly a passenger seat occupancy sensor, and passenger seat belt switch in the belt buckle i assume, so new buckle assembly to start with and a new air bag and see what codes go away, since some codes can be related to each other. How bad of an impact was it? | not bad at all, i am surprised the airbags went off in the first place, the vehicle hit a hitch receiver and dented the hood and front header piece a little. | | | 02-10-2015, 02:52 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2009 Location: usa Posts: 378 | Quote: Originally Posted by blowin 4 1. dr pretensioner built into the buckle 2. the srs can be programed but in your cash it has reached maxima deployment of 3 times so its locked occupancy can be recalibrate with a good scan tool . if you have any more question contact me i own a mobile airbag co.its not to leave back packs and objects on pass seat it throw's off the calibration from time to time i can give you a # to a guy that can rebuild you srs unit and pretioners cheap cheack him out. srsmodule.com | thanks for the help, but how do you know my unit reached maximum deployment? the ecu code? as far as i know it only blew once, and only one airbag? how about seat belt switch, is that also in the seat belt buckle? is the code for firing circuit right side airbag, is that circuit inside the airbag? or is that a second part I will need? I have a buddy here that has the dealer bmw scan tool, and I have a snap on solus edge also. and is it true that the pretentioners need replacement after a crash that causes the airbags to go off? I am not the original owner, just bought it a few months back. I'm going to start with the air bag, belt buckles and seat occupancy sensor and see if codes go away or if i am able to clear them then. I might try to reset the module when i am all done, I'll call my buddy with the bmw scanner to do that. thanks. | | | 02-11-2015, 03:00 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2009 Location: san jose Posts: 425 | Quote: Originally Posted by performanceisland I have a brand new battery in there, cannot clear codes, even the internal failure stays, I try and it says unsuccessful, my understanding is that those cannot be cleared just like ABS codes, you have to fix the problem to make the code go away. I'm trying to teach you how to see if you srs unit is good but since you said the code never erased you unit is locked and needs to be replaced ... you need to leave the occupancy till last 90 %e they need to be calibrated you don't want to start playing with it that cost a lot of money. butt what do i know i only been doing this 14 years lmao. good luck. | | | 02-11-2015, 03:11 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2009 Location: san jose Posts: 425 | [URL=http://s100.photobucket.com/user/tazy_01/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20150210_155316_zpsug5f6qfd.jpg.html] [/URL Last edited by blowin 4; 02-11-2015 at 03:18 AM. | | | 02-11-2015, 02:24 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2009 Location: usa Posts: 378 | Quote: Originally Posted by blowin 4 your codes won't erase till u fix the problem .. I am not sure what triggers the door air bag, or where they are located, thanks. I have a few cars with this a probable seat sensor issue and it's good to know it requires calibration as I was just going to order a couple of seat sensors. Thanks for sharing your insight here.
