It seems I can get the control box, and the motor actuator on Ebay. Both for under $100.00 used. Add on a cable and a few brackets, and the total is probably under $200.00. That is for the stock cruise control system. The add on upgraded system looks much simplier on the REALOEM website. The question is, is it worth buying the upgrade for $500.00, or piece the system together? Will adding cruise control be easier if I buy the complete retrofit, or is buying all the stock parts just as easy? I guess it depends on what type of driving you do. | __________________ 1998 (July) 318ti, 5-spd OEM Armrest Blaupunkt Heidelberg CD50 CD Player/Compact Drive MP3 Player Diamond Audio 5.25" rear speakers Navman ICN 530 GPS BMWALARM.COM (with comfort settings) after market alarm system Magnecor 8.5mm wires M-Z3 Shifter/Momo Knob Burlwood Dashboard Stromung Exhaust X-brace Racing Dynamics Front Strut Bar Carbonio C.A.I. 17" Rial Rims Vader Seats/Heated/Lumbar Support M-tech Steering Wheel/Front Sway Bar/Front & Rear Bumper Depos/w 6500K Angel Eyes/6000K HIDs Clear Corners M3 Mirrors UUC Light Weight Flywheel/M5 Clutch/M3 Clutch Slave E28 3.46 LSD/Mcoupe Cover/E30 Flanges & Halfshafts UUC S.S. I'm going to go with the audiovox system at around $100 and add a used stock cc switch. I will wire from the cc switch harness to the cc brainbox. The ccs100 is fully programmable and customizeable to a given switch. It also comes with a small switch set that looks "aftermarkety" but doesn't take up much visual space. I was told this is the easiest and most reliable kit to use. | | | 11-04-2005, 04:51 AM | #21 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | do you have a pic of the audiovox system or a link? __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 11-04-2005, 02:24 PM | #22 | Member Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: Raleigh NC Posts: 36 | There is a good tutorial on Miata.net and the item is widely available... Search eBay; froogle; yahoo... Search audiovox criuse on Google for product info. My main issue is the rewiring to the stock BMW steering column mounted control stalk. I don't expect to have time for this install until sometime this winter after my upcoming move to Raleigh/Durham. | | | 11-04-2005, 02:29 PM | #23 | Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Park City, Utah Posts: 30 | OBC a no go BMWs come with pretty specific wrining harnesses and they are generally not modular. CC is one of the exceptions, OBC is not. While you can buy a used display unit you will find that the car is not wired for one. Lots of folks on the various E36 digests have gone down this path of getting an OBC only to find that there is no wiring to support it. __________________ David '97 318ti, '97 318is, '96 Z3, '95 M3 (club racer) | | | 11-04-2005, 07:06 PM | #24 | Member Join Date: Apr 2005 Location: Raleigh NC Posts: 36 | I'm not sure why or where the obc question came up. I have done it, but I can't comment on other e36 models although many people do upgrade from the 11 button to the 18 OBC in the sedans and coupes. __________________ '95 330ti CS w/sr delete, S50USB30, cams, 24# inj, Conforti SW, Euro HFM, Samco Silicone Intake Boot, BBTB, Euro Oil Cooler, JTD CAI Duct, RE DMS exhaust, RE Tranny mounts, CF Valve Cover, LTW flywheel/Kevlar sprung hub clutch, RE SSK, 3.46 Finned LSD (M6) , M3 tranny, Brembos, RE Wheel Studs, SS brake/clutch lines, CF interior, Rear Headrest retrofit, Tilt Steering retrofit, 13.5 lb DynaBatt in rear, LED interior/footwell lights, ZKW HID, Headlight Aim Control, Rear fog light w/cluster indicator, CF 3 Aux gauge pod, BMW Traffic Pro/Alpine MP3-CD Changer, Staggered LTW wheels, '95 M3 steering rack, VIS CF Hood, M3 LTW Strut Bar, TCK SA coilovers, Red LTW Motorsport Seatbelts, OEM Fire Extinguisher, Z8 Starter button, Auto dim rear view mirror w/ Homelink/Compass, PDC, Rear Sun Shade, Euro Gauge Cluster w/oil temp/shift light , Headlight Washers, "Motorsport" Door Handles, CF Grills, French ZKW Fogs, Euro dash bins, Power Lumbar Support is next, Coming e39 M5 interior light, Bimmer Magazine 8/2007 | | | 11-18-2005, 06:48 AM | #26 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: cary, nc Posts: 2,259 | raleigh durham...nice place....hope you like it! im at school in raleigh at NC State right now __________________ 1995 318ti Active Pioneer Speakers [] Aluminum Billet door locks [] ACS Pedals/Deadrest [] ACS Shift Knob / E-Brake Handle [] Clear Corners/Tails/Sides [] Sylvania Exterior Lighting [] Custom CAI [] Dinan Engine Chip [] Dinan Transmission Chip [] H&R Race Springs [] Tokico Illumina Shocks [] BMW X-Brace [] Relocated Lighter Mod [] Custom iPod Mod http://www.cardomain.com/id/robcarync | | | 11-18-2005, 06:40 PM | #27 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Bremerhaven, Germany Posts: 977 | Quote: Originally Posted by clex2 I have done it, but I can't comment on other e36 models although many people do upgrade from the 11 button to the 18 OBC in the sedans and coupes. | Only the latter, 18-button unit is an OBC. A traditional body E36 OBC is not that hard to retrofit. You need to add a connector, move two wires, add 5-6 wires and change the turn stalk if you want to control it that way. It's an easy weekend project if you can use solder and heat shrink, plus perhaps 10 minutes at a BMW dealer coding the OBC to match the car, if the OBC is new or came out of a significantly different car. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
