??

I painted walls in a house without taking a painting class. I'll suggest doing a search for "$50 paint job". I'm thinking of painting myself in a few months. . . we'll see if the dark green grows on me. . .otherwise I'm going red or yellow.

Do yourself a favor and go with a professional.

Painting ain’t easy!

Maybe you can bet some good practice with this first.

Just kidding but you are setting yourself up for a big disappointment.

Take it down to Mexico. They do great work down there for really cheap!!! I've also had custom upholstery work done. I'm thinking about taking mine on a little road trip pretty soon.

Ive done some painting. Its really hard. There is no way in hell I would ever paint my own car and Ive had experience. To do it right you need tons of practice and a lot of somewhat expensive equipment. You need more then a few painting classes to get it right. Get it done by a pro or wait for a year or two and practice on everything. If you try to do it yourself it will suck, there is no way you will get it right.

ive tried also, it went ok

im sure if i had a few more goes id be good enough to paint a whole car.. mabey even my own

the prep work is the most important, and make sure you dont touch the car with bare hands befor spraying

colour to thinner is 2:1 if iirc. and silver is a bitch to get perfect as the distance you hold the jet must be the same all the way round or u´ll get shade variations.

paint, then use a 2000 / 2500 to smooth the paint of all imperfections. then clear and 2500 after that. then polish finnish and it should look like glass.

mine did

No offense the job looks great but... This guy obviously has a great work place and plenty of money for the right equipment (notice the Porsche in the 2nd pic). With really nice equipment its a lot easier. If you do paint it yourself, and you shouldnt but, paint it in peices. Paint all the body parts seperately and make sure to remeber to give them the same amount of coats. This makes it easier and if you mess up its less work to redo. This is also a good idea since your air compressor probably wont be big enough for the whole car.

how good the job turns out depends on how much money you want to spend. There are no short cuts in paint & body, you get what you pay for, trust me, i deal with these people all day selling Dupont and PPG paint and body supplies. If you were in Lawton, OK i could tell you plenty of places to go and what they use to get a paint job from $700 up to $7,000 depending on what you want. I have also done this work on the side for the last 5 years and last year started my bodywork on my Ti and just finished with the painting and reassembling this weekend... its no fun if you dont know what your doing, just ask my friends who tried to help me.
Just remember, it's a BMW, dont use ****ty paint on it, get the good stuff, it lasts longer, either Dupont Chromabase or PPG Deltron 2000. I used Dupont ChromaPremier....$$$$, but i get employee discount

Black is the hardest color to shoot. The bodywork has to be absolutely perfect or you'll see the imperfections. Red is the most exspensive color because it requires the most pigment. I attended an auto refinishing course part of which was an internship at a local shop, Avenue Paint and Body, and I'll have to agree with everyone else, the tools and materials are very exspensive. You have to know what you're doing. If its humid out or if there's too much moisture in the air, you'll ruin your paintjob and it will come out cloudy. Not to mention, if you don't have access to a spray booth with a good air/water seperator, you'll most likely screw it up. Any dust particles or moisture will leave imperfections. Honestly, if you haven't done it before, you're better off taking it to Earl Sheib and spending a couple hundred bucks. Atleast then you'll have someone with 20 years experience working on your car. Or you could save up your cash and have a reputable shop do it. You have until the summer right? Why not start putting money away for a decent job. $1500 would be alright, but like someone said before, you get what you pay for. Personally I wouldn't spend less than 2 G's. I'm thinking of taking my car south of the border for a nice paintjob this summer.
