Is it worth it to buy new rims to only lose 4 lbs per wheel? Can't i just take out the spare tire and backseat and have the same effect for free? Is losing 24lbs via the wheels different than losing it elswhere in the car? | | | 08-01-2004, 04:58 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | It is where the weight comes off that is also important. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 08-01-2004, 05:06 AM | #3 | Member Join Date: Jul 2004 Location: Canada Posts: 35 | i'm confused...is losing wheel weight the most "ideal" vs other areas. will i even notice a difference in driving when losing only 24lbs? | | | 08-01-2004, 03:05 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | I'm not the one to answer but there is something called unsprung weight. My guess it is better to remove weight from something that turns than something that is fixed. Removing weight is like adding horsepower, although very little unless it becomes significant. Since you need horsepower to push you, less weight means more horespower available to do the job at hand. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 08-02-2004, 04:33 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2004 Location: Columbia S.C. Posts: 127 | Hey Tiger, The lighter wheels reduce rotating weight which allows the car to acclerate the wheels faster. You probably will not notice too much difference here. the big increase is in the braking. the lighter wheels are easier to slow down. The other place it helps is unsprung weight. the lighter the whole suspension is the better the shocks and stuts can control it. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | Similar Threads | Thread | Thread Starter | Forum | Replies | Last Post | WTB: Bent OEM Wheel | CirrusSR22 | US and North America | 5 | 11-25-2008 04:14 PM | |
