The rockford fostgate is going to be leaving soon anyways and all the speakers will be upgraded/replaced...other than that, the car doesnt have a whole lot of gadgetry in it. Besides, without the faceplate, the unit is pretty much useless. Unless they know exactly what i have in the car, itll look just like any other cd player without the faceplate. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 09-18-2006, 01:19 AM | #17 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2005 Location: Bend, OR Posts: 413 | Go to Costco and buy a Magellan Rodamate! If I was going to get one I would get a CF type and run it on my Pocket PC. That way it's protable and you can use it as a PDA too. The in dash head units that support GPS are also very cool, but they are expensive, they block your center air vents, and are a bit of a distraction. Just my two cents. | | | 09-19-2006, 07:42 PM | #20 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2005 Location: Malden, MA Posts: 672 | I have a garmin streetpilot 560. By far one of the best GPS units I have ever had. I had the Pioneer AVIC-N2, but I sold it because it stuck out like a sore thumb in the dash. The in dash kits like from alpine, pioneer and such, work good, but are a very easy target for thieves. Only the bottom half of the face is removable in most cases and it makes it stick out even more. Thats why I opted for the streetpilot. __________________ "Power Rules, Smooth is Fast, Late Brake if you HAVE TO, But Always get the Inside Line.......and Fear No One." | | | 08-17-2007, 09:08 PM | #21 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Land of the Vikings Posts: 2,700 | using garmin at the moment. no complaints atall __________________ Vin Number decode and Retrofit Pdfs Available Free ! I have a HTC Hermes (Smartphone) with TomTom loaded on it, adn all US and Canada maps, plus a tiny BT GPS module. I only use it when I need it, but it does voice navigation prompting too, and works great. My e90 has iDrive already. I'm thinking of getting a 135i and foregoing the iDrive in lieu of a smartphone with GPS integrated into it on that car. __________________ 1997 332ti - Don't even ask. 2006 330i - ZPP/ZSP/ZCW/6sp/Nav/BT/H&R Sport 2011 E92 M3 | | | 08-17-2007, 10:31 PM | #23 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Saint Paul, MN Posts: 3,244 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996 328ti I would not retro fit a GPS, instead look at a Garmin that can be moved from car to car. | +1. They're nice if they can recalculate if you go off-route (to go around traffic, etc). I can imagine those flip-out screens would block the HVAC? I'm contemplating getting a Garmin 10x (tiny BT GPS, smaller than my toll tag transponder) to match with my smartphone, but right now I can't justify the cost since the rare times I get lost I can find directions using my phone. Depending on how and where you're traveling, I highly suggest a CB radio. Good for avoiding traffic (you'll know several miles in advance, and can ask for directions around it), not getting tagged by speed traps (you'll know what mile marker the "bear" is hiding) and just for craps and giggles. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 08-18-2007, 07:47 AM | #25 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Auburn, WA Posts: 1,814 | thats all that u need VRX775VD (1) DVD MULTIMEDIA STATION WITH CeNET & 7-INCH TOUCH PANEL CONTROL NAX970HD (2) (3) HDD NAVIGATION SYSTEM TTX005 (4) STAND ALONE TV TUNER SIRCL3 (5) SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO CeNET RECEIVER / ANTENNA __________________ 5/96 318TI Sport BIG TURBO | | | 01-03-2008, 03:49 AM | #26 | Z3 Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Usa Posts: 660 | Nuvi is the way to go Last edited by Bozola; 01-31-2011 at 02:49 PM. | | | 01-03-2008, 04:53 AM | #27 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: LA, Bellflower, CA Posts: 3,613 | Quote: Originally Posted by Bozola | hey. i have mine there too . after i read your suggestion. easier on the eyes there. __________________ -Theta Chi- Float like a cadilac, sting like a BIMMER .... my socket is just too thick and won't fit in the hole! damnit!
