DASC So the question of the day is!!!! Which is better for the: money, performance, time spent on, look, feel, reliability...The Downing Atlanta Supercharger or a M3 s52 or s54 swap into a 1995 318ti. Keep in mind the OBD-I and II restrictionos. Defintly take into consideration prices that you have seen in the past, and wrench time. Lets hear everyones opinion, the more you can input the better. Im very interested in everyone elses opinion, and i'll throw mine in a little later. | | | 05-11-2006, 06:02 PM | #2 | doesn't care about you. You two are the new Batman and Robin... or maybe Oscar and Felix?? To answer the question in a nutshell, IMO if you have average or lower miles and need this as a daily driver in all kinds of weather seems the DASC or SEAM unit is the practical choice. If you already have high miles and also have deep pockets and can afford the domino effect of a swap and don't navigate ice storms and such, the swap is for you. Personally the answer for me lies in where I live and if I can afford a winter beater car. __________________ My Former Rides 1999 318ti Alpine White, Cali Roof, Dinan goodies 1996 318ti Hellrot California Edition | | | 05-12-2006, 04:00 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: Norfolk, Virginia Posts: 289 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1996Bmw318TI | Just throwing this out there....Yes, users could do a search for the info they are looking for. But does anybody think that maybe someone might have a fresh new outlook on a topic? Or some different personel experience to share? How about, if all your gonna say is, "Go do a search", dont bother. As far as OBD restrictions, bimmer7 has an S52 swap with an OBD-1 conversion, which helps out greatly. __________________ _____________________________________________ Cold air, Dual Exhaust, Ellipsoid headlights, CCFL Angel Eyes, custom ICE, M3 wheels, Cobra Radar Detector, CF eyebrows, ACS CF gauge bezel, clear corners, Euro tail lights. I'd have to swap a equal or younger age engine into my car (98 model) and keep OBDII to pass my annual inspection. I know it's possible to do an engine swap with an OBDII car, but it's more hassle than I want to deal with in my driveway. The SC should be totally bolt on and I can keep my stock computer system intact which will make passing emissions a lot easier. If I were into racing I think my decisions would go in a different direction, my current goal is to have a fun, fast, cool car. I get tempted almost weekly to get an old beat e30 and do some crazy engine swapping madness, but for now that's staying away from my tis :-) | | | 05-12-2006, 06:12 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2005 Location: çî†ÿ øf åNgëL§, CA Posts: 5,314 | Quote: Originally Posted by USMC318ti Just throwing this out there....Yes, users could do a search for the info they are looking for. I think that instead of saying do a search or complaining that there are multiple posts, just simply list a link if you truely want to post a comment, or don't post anything. I was one of those guys that would get that from other members too. Dusten remembers, when i first was here, i flipped out starting cussing and talking Sh*t. I wanted to ask stuff and i always got, do a search.
