So the PO of my car had a Jensen VM9312 installed but wired incorrectly. The A/C control panel had a crack in it and when I went to remove the stereo I noticed he had put a screw in to help hold the stereo and panel in place. The VM9312 is a DVD player with fold out screen and is very heavy! It was wanting to pull the whole Heater Panel out of the dash. Looks like there is no support for the rear of the head unit in the dash? So is there a weight limit on what head unit to install in a ti? Anyone have better luck with a DVD screen unit? I might just install my JVC KD-S26. | | | 04-19-2012, 08:13 PM | #2 | aka Stabby Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Mead, CO Posts: 5,336 | If I remember correctly, there is a metal piece with a hold in it behind the head unit that receives a post as you slide the head unit back into place that is to support it on the back side. __________________ 1996 318ti, California package, 267k miles current mods: bilstein sports, bavauto springs, e30 m3 LCABs, solid metal ball joints, bavauto RSMs w/reinforcements, e30 3.73 LSD & halfshafts, supersprint cat-back exhaust, turner rear sway bar reinforcements, IE poly subframe & RTABs + camber/toe kits, powdercoated e36 32x front calipers, sport mirrors, H&R 28mmF/19mmR sway bars, x-brace, auto solutions SSK w/poly bushing upgrade, BMW CD43 head unit, DICE HD Radio w/iPod integration and "stealth" HD antenna, staggered style 68s, orange electronic TPMS, leather arm rest, JT Designs metal undertray acquired and awaiting install: heated seat kit, cali top switch relo, lumbar support kit, park distance control kit, heated washer nozzle kit, m-coupe rear subframe, trailing arms, differential, and halfshafts, m-coupe front/rear brakes with master cylinder, under hood light kit, mud flaps, rear sun blind, auto-dimming rear view mirror, tilt steering wheel retrofit, apexcone 5000K HIDs with 55W ballasts 2002 X5 4.4 Sport Package, 53.5k miles Current Mods: e46 m3 steering wheel | | | 04-19-2012, 10:23 PM | #3 | Member Join Date: Mar 2012 Location: iowa Posts: 90 | You said it cali ti, the factory head had a pin on the back of it that went into a hole to support the back of it. I don't know how many new heads have this feature. Is it posible to move the head unit down to where the heater controls are and the heater controls up to where the head is? I don't know if it would help any but it might. | | | 04-20-2012, 01:16 AM | #4 | Member Join Date: Sep 2011 Location: Australia Posts: 50 | I had a slide out screen head unit for about 6 months and I had no issues with installing it or using it. Are you guys talking about the metal cage that the head unit fits into? If so, I'm pretty sure they're generic! But don't hold me to that. I had no issues with weight with the slide out head unit, although it was significantly heavier than my Alpine iDA-X305S that I replaced it with just yesterday. | | | 04-20-2012, 03:43 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2011 Location: Texxas Posts: 110 | I see the hole in the back of the dash, most head units have a threaded hole, guess I could get some all thread or a bolt and put in the head unit and see if I can line it up with the hole in the back of the dash... | | | 04-20-2012, 04:36 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2012 Location: Sacramento, CA Posts: 2,451 | Pics for what you end up doing please!
