I know they don't sell the 4 cyl cars here, and getting one from Europe could be tricky, but ignoring that, any thoughts on the difficulty of swapping it into the E36? | | | 08-04-2006, 06:16 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Port St. Johns, Florida Posts: 2,242 | M50B20? It's a six if that's the one your thinking of. I like those engines, high revs and good sound to them. | | | 08-04-2006, 07:49 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Lincoln Park Capitol Hill, Washington DC Posts: 741 | I'm assuming that it will be much easier to shoe-in a 2.0 4 Cyl. All the same drive shafts, suspensions, diff, etc. __________________ It's always a great day to be underwater and play with the fish.....preserve our oceans and reefs" Fariz 1997 318ti, Hellrot (Bright Red), Dinan Stage 2 Chip 16x7 OEM sport Wheels/X-Brace/Custom Strut Brace/Cold Air Intake/M-Tec Steering Wheel/Koni Adjustable FrontShocks/ Bilstein Sport Rear Shocks /H&R Sport Springs/Custom fabricated strut tower brace/Rear Strut brace, Stromung Exhaust Future Mods: E46 17" wheels or Kosei K-1 17x8.5s | | | 08-04-2006, 08:12 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2004 Location: Pennsylvania Posts: 218 | Quote: Originally Posted by Panzer_M M50B20? Is the 1.995 from the new 318 very different from the M44 -- I can't find good specs for it in english anywhere. | | | 08-04-2006, 08:47 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Port St. Johns, Florida Posts: 2,242 | The late model 94-95 M42B18 is alittle different. Although it looks the same at first glance. Some of the differances. What I was thinking was the engine from a new 318 into a ti (mine is M44) I am not even sure this question makes any sense, just kinda popped into my mind while I was looking over the new european models. | | | 08-10-2006, 05:44 AM | #7 | Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: oregon Posts: 83 | Quote: Originally Posted by Panzer_M The late model 94-95 M42B18 is alittle different. I can't remember if it was Racing Dynamics or Schnitzer. If you could get a hold of one of those it should be a direct fit obviously. Or you could find an engine builder here like Korman or Metric Mechanic. That would probably end up being less hassle. | | | 08-10-2006, 06:41 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: Berlin, Germany Posts: 258 | You mean the engine from an E46 318? __________________ | | | 08-10-2006, 07:01 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: Vancouver, B.C. The 'hot' 320si out right now to meet WTCC specs comes with a blazing 170hp and 140tq...for all the pain and agony of installing it and getting it smogged (if applicable in your state ) you could DASC or swap an M50 about ten times each. __________________ Andy Chittum - Mad Man Motorsports | | | 08-10-2006, 08:47 PM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Halethorpe, MD Posts: 1,028 | m-technik_ti, That was probably it. I couldn't remember. I kick myself on a regular basis for not getting one of those while I lived in Germany. Oh well. | | | 08-11-2006, 03:30 PM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2004 Location: Pennsylvania Posts: 218 | Conclusion: this is a dumb idea . hehe. It was the first M42 they have done and apprently it turned out very well. At any rate, it makes for an interesting read. | | | 08-13-2006, 01:42 PM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2004 Location: Pennsylvania Posts: 218 | I've got an M44... but I'll check it out anyway.
