The grommet is still inplace on your cable to fill the firewall hole gap. __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. I was wondering how the heck I was going to drill or cut a hole in that tight space, lol. | | | 07-17-2009, 07:53 AM | #424 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Positive cable installed!!! Had to remove the driver's seat to make room for my fat ass to lay down and work under the dash, took a little nap while I was under there. Installed rear steel braided brake lines along with new rear rotors and pads. Rotors are Zimmermann solid blank discs, nothing fancy just good quality. Pads are PBR's, again nothing fancy. Installed e28 3.46 LSD. Opened it up to swap the cover and drain the oil. Old oil was still pretty nice, had a blueish tint to it. This diff was SOLID! No slack at all, nice and clean inside. However, it had about 1/2" of crud caked on the outside. I used a big ass screwdriver to scrape the crud off then spent about two hours degreasing it in my driveway. Engine degreaser and simplegreen were completely useless, this grease was like no other. I ended up using 4 big pots of boiling water, dishwashing soap and a hard bristle brush to degrease it. Installed e30 output flanges, e30 cover with new gasket and an e30 speed sensor. Filled it with Mobil1 75w90 LS. It bolted up first try with no hassles whatsoever. I even heard stories of people having to beat the bottom of their car with a sledge hammer to make room for the medium cased diffs. Mine went in with plenty of room to spare??? There's about an inch of space between the top of the diff and the floorboard. The e30 cover had a new solid bushing in it. All in all, the install went in suprisingly easy. Jacked the diff up on a floorjack, slid the jack into place under the mounts, started the four bolts by hand, slipped the fifth bolt through the bushing, then tightened everything down. I'm waiting on new inner and outer CV boot kits for my e30 halfshafts. 60 bucks for all four from Pelicanparts, not bad. I also ordered new hub nuts and hub nut locking plates. I was thinking about getting new RTAB's but the ones in there are still good. I'm pretty sure that the previous owner had them replaced. Well that's about all I got for now. Waiting for parts to arrive, once the rear end is back together the motor/tranny will be ready to go in! Then we'll move on to the exhaust, and I'll get to use my oxy-acetylene welder Last edited by cooljess76; 08-07-2009 at 10:31 AM. | | | 08-07-2009, 06:57 AM | #426 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Auburn, WA Posts: 1,814 | very nice, can't wait to see the finish product __________________ 5/96 318TI Sport BIG TURBO | | | 08-07-2009, 01:06 PM | #427 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Raleigh/Charlotte, NC Posts: 1,233 | sledge hammer on body action only needed for 95 cars. __________________ -Jeff | | | 08-08-2009, 08:21 AM | #428 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | is it too late to request pics of shimming the ABS sensor? | | | 08-08-2009, 04:23 PM | #429 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Quote: Originally Posted by BMW_Hatchback is it too late to request pics of shimming the ABS sensor? | Not too late at all. My parts will be here on Tuesday, so more than likely Wednesday I'll be ready to install the halfshafts. If you look at the outter end of the halfshaft(the splined end that meshes with the wheel hub) there's a ribbed section just inward of the spline. This section is known as the "Toning Ring". The ABS sensor is basically just a magnet that sits about a millimeter away from that toning ring and receives a pulse. Now if you look at an e30 halfshaft compared to a Ti halfshaft, you'll notice that the e30 halfshaft has larger ends, thus larger toning rings. If I'm not mistaken, the ABS sensor will need to be shimmed to a proper alignment with the toning ring: Last edited by cooljess76; 08-08-2009 at 04:25 PM. | | | 08-08-2009, 07:38 PM | #430 | Moderator Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Maryland Posts: 3,220 | Thanks, take pics of that when you are doing it, that would seal the deal for me. keep up good work Jess | | | 08-11-2009, 08:01 PM | #431 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | And the fun begins!!! | | | 08-11-2009, 08:11 PM | #432 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Raleigh/Charlotte, NC Posts: 1,233 | GET DIRTY __________________ -Jeff | | | 08-14-2009, 02:56 AM | #433 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | | | | 08-14-2009, 02:57 AM | #434 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | | | | 08-14-2009, 05:27 AM | #435 | Member Join Date: Nov 2008 Location: Ventura County, CA/ Seattle WA Posts: 47 | Jess gimme a call soon, i dont have your number anymore.
