Hey guys, Just ran into a problem with my car today. It was running fine, then pulled it into my garage and parked it. On my way back out, I started the car and it immediately shut off. Tried it one more time and it happened again. Any ideas of what this could mean/be? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks. | | | 07-23-2006, 02:04 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2003 Location: Northern IL Posts: 263 | so is it starting and then dying, or just not starting at all? | | | 07-23-2006, 03:51 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | Does it die immediately or is there a bit of struggle, then death? My first guess is fuel delivery, but there's not a lot to work with here. Any other symptoms? This can happen in (very) hot weather. Just give it a little gas until the idle clears up. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 07-23-2006, 04:34 AM | #4 | Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Toronto, Canada Posts: 73 | It starts then immediately shuts off (with the littlest struggle). However, if you give a little gas before it dies, its good and can idle. No hot weather or anything like that. Dont know how else to describe it, but if you guys have more questions, please ask and I will answer them. Thanks in advance for your help. | | | 07-23-2006, 01:05 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Lincoln Park Capitol Hill, Washington DC Posts: 741 | Did it have a slight rough idle before? Has the fuel filter ever been changed? Check if any of the vacuum hoses are not connected/leaks. Good luck. __________________ It's always a great day to be underwater and play with the fish.....preserve our oceans and reefs" Fariz 1997 318ti, Hellrot (Bright Red), Dinan Stage 2 Chip 16x7 OEM sport Wheels/X-Brace/Custom Strut Brace/Cold Air Intake/M-Tec Steering Wheel/Koni Adjustable FrontShocks/ Bilstein Sport Rear Shocks /H&R Sport Springs/Custom fabricated strut tower brace/Rear Strut brace, Stromung Exhaust Future Mods: E46 17" wheels or Kosei K-1 17x8.5s | | | 07-24-2006, 02:07 PM | #6 | Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: FT LUADERDALE, FL Posts: 91 | that kind of happened to me one day when i went out to eat. i parked the car came back about an hour or 2 later and she wouldnt start. the car turned over but wouldnt start turned out the fuel pump went to heaven __________________ Specs: M-Technic Front/Rear, M3 Side Skirts & Mirrors, MS Roof Wing, Euro Tail Lights, Projector Signals, ADR M Sport 18x8.5, H&R Sport Springs, Bilstien Sport Shocks, E46 M3 Rear Shock Mounts, M Roadster Rear Shock Mount Plates, Momo Shift Knob, Bavauto 8mm Perf Wires, K&N Cone Filter, Stainless Steel Brake Lines, Cross Drilled Rotors, 20 Piece Carbon Fiber Dash Kit, NR White Guage Face, X-Brace, BMP Strut Tower Brace, UUC stage 2 flywheel, and SS clutch line | | | 07-24-2006, 02:45 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Puerto Rico Posts: 885 | I have the exact problem one day after i work in my motor and the problem was the air flow meter, i remove it from the intake and not connet it again, so also chek the air flow connectors and look for air leakbefore the air flow meter __________________ BMW...MY NEW TOY Mods: Some plastic parts, ///M Wheels and me | | | 08-01-2006, 10:10 PM | #8 | Junior Member Join Date: Jul 2006 Posts: 10 | Just looking at posts...irealized that i had the same problem about a week ago. It happened to me twice. I started the car, then after a few seconds the car just rev down and turned off. I took it to some guy close by my house who works on bmws and he told me that the air intake hose had a crack on it and the air to the engine might be leaking out or something like that. so....well he said with labor and parts it would be about 125. I would like to know if anybody knows what part is this (i dont much about cars...sorry....and the guy said it was something that looked like an accordeon..???) and about how much the part would cost if i were to buy it. Also teh guy told me i had to replace the main belt....anyone knows how much or where to findout how much this parts cost?... thanks for the help | | | 08-01-2006, 11:01 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: MN Posts: 155 | __________________ live with boost | | | 08-01-2006, 11:58 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Portland Or Posts: 2,666 | FYI - I paid less than the ebay cost at the local dealer with no discounts....
