Exclamation 'Rebuild' Essentials??

Can anybody provide a list of bear essentials required to 'rebuild' an M44 motor (prod. date 8/98)??

My motor is not in best of shapes (see my other / most recent posts/threads) and so I was debating a host of different possibilities... Anywhere from Ebay / Bav Eng Exc rebuild kits & used motors to Metrix Mechanics full bread race engines (pipe dream fantasies, mostly )

It seems, though, my best bet (I.E. only affordabe option) is to buy parts needed for rebuild - and as suggested on this forum - find a local mechanic to do the job.

Sooooooo... again, can anyone provide a list of just 'bare bone essentials' (only the most neccessary, besides pistons) I would need to buy to do a rebuild?

All, as always, is appreciated.

on a M44, I'd use eagle rods over OE. Eagles are forged and 300$ a set or so IIRC.

pistons, I'd go with JE. you can get them machined to what specs you need, and they aren't the shiet Maxsil Bav Engine trys to sell.

also for F/I I would look at M.M. tri-ply head gasket.

yes.. it sounds interesting, but wont the larged displacement mess with air/fuel mixture & therefore trip up the ecu (at least CEL on)?

I am looking for valves at the moment for the M42. IIRC I think the M50/M42 share valves...I know you can use M50 retainers/springs on the M42.

Also looking at Stainless Steel Ferrea valves? Any good? Just say them shopping around for JE pistons.

I wonder if I could slap my DASC on a set up like that, without any further mods?

i would think the only thing stopping it would be raised compession and ITBs...

i think if you didnt change the compression and didnt use ITBs you can slap a DASC on it...

but i am very interested to see whether it would work well together... so anyone with bigger brains...

custom JE pistons(lower comp) and the thicker head gasket.

yes, that makes sense (compression), but what about the injectors, ECU?
would Nock G's Stage 2 suffice?

also, where would you get the calc for ordering the right piston set (lowering compression)?

Read the PDF file on the metric mechanic website about how to do a 2.1 stroker. That is basically what their 2200 rally motor is. They use the m47d crank. Yes it does have to be remachined, and yes it would require custom tuning.

VAC motorsports has just about any type of internal engine components that you could need. They'll also tell you what you need to do an overhaul.
