Default BavAuto Muffler Installation Kit

All I have to say is that I'm usually pleased with BavAuto, but this time they fell short.

I ordered the "318TI EIK M44" kit last week in preparation for the arrival of my new exhaust. This kit includes the pipe hanger, and two muffler hangers. Along with two bolts (and washers), two springs and two copper nuts.

I received the package to find that the bolts are back ordered (no mention of the washers) while it displays the kit available to order. Okay, whatever that's how BavAuto does their business anyways I'm sure I'll get the bolt in a reasonable amount of time.

Upon further inspection, one of the muffler hangers is OEM, while the other is some crappy no name, where the holes aren't even cut all the way through. There are deep indentations, but they're not 100% cut through. Not to mention the aftermarket hanger looks a little dicey.

This got me worried, so I checked out the copper nuts. I swear these must have been used. Both of them seem to have an ellipse shaped hole, which I'm assuming is normal, because they both seem to be identical. But one of them has rather large gashes (from a wrench?) and the other seems to have indentations. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt it's from the manufacturing process. However the one with the indentations definitely appears to be used. It's no where near as shiny, and discolored in many locations, including the threads.

I plan on calling them either later today or tomorrow to plead my case.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Stay tuned.

This is what they advertise:

I just reused my stuff. You can pick this all up at the dealer too probably for less than what BavAuto wants.

I would call BAV today and tell them about it. Maybe they can overnite another set or refund your money. Then you can go get it at the BMW dealerships. You can get BMWCCA discount at the dealerships. I would call ahead different BMW dealership around Boston first. Each one got their own pricing. You wouldn't believe the $$ differences from place to place sometimes. They can order it and get it in two days if available at warehouse.

Yeah I would've gotten it @ the dealer, but the last time I went to Herb Chambers.. I ended up ordering it anyways. (they didn't have anything). And honestly, I'm a bit lazy to go driving to other dealerships when I can just order it from BavAuto, even with the CCA discount, it probably evens itself out after fuel costs.

Pictures as promised. I apologize for some of the higher resolution pictures. I just wanted to show the detail.. I also noticed that the OEM and the AM Hangers had different #'s on the stickers. However the springs & nuts didn't?

I'm going to call them and ask what's up. See how they handle it.

Tischer's prices are very nice. Do they also do BMWCCA discounts over the net? I can't believe I've never ordered from them before (I've been to the site before..)

Yeah, thats really lame of BavAuto. Let's see what they have to say, thought they were better than that.
I was definitely just perusing Tischer's site and was like yeah i guess these prices are ok after looking for about 20 minutes.. Then i realized i'd been looking at the MSRP price, not the "your price." Felt pretty dumb when i realized they really DO have great prices

Tischer doesn't do an additional CCA discount, they're already cheaper than my dealership with CCA though. I was talking with Evan (one of the parts managers) and he said he's going to make an account here after he finishes up dating with the BMW price bumps (they raised prices on some things recently). They usually do giveaways which are nice... free valve stem caps and stuff. Even rims at one point.

It looks to me like they're just old. Tarnished, and banged around a bit. The ovalization works kind of like a lock washer, meaning they're likely one time use. Remember, copper is softer than steel. The one on the right does look (maybe) used, but because of the discoloration on the threads, not the tool marks on the outside.

Regardless, you should be 100% satisfied. Call them and ask for a replacement.
