Anytime I drive down a hill my thermostat drops, the bigger the hill the more it drops. This seemed to start after I installed the Mosselman turbo kit. Is this one of the side affects of a turbo? Is the innercooler actually cooling down the car that much? Let me know thanks | | | 02-08-2006, 03:02 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2005 Location: Bend, OR Posts: 413 | make sure all your fluids are topped off...could be a fluxuation because there isnt enough fluids to cover your sensor, causing the guage to misread | | | 02-08-2006, 05:18 AM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Portland, OR Posts: 17 | The radiator is topped off. Is there any other fluids or ideas you have that could be causing this? | | | 02-08-2006, 06:22 AM | #4 | Member Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Portland Posts: 85 | thermostat, it may be stuck open and not closing when the car is not generating much heat __________________ 96 Jet Black California Package | | | 02-08-2006, 11:35 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2005 Location: çî†ÿ øf åNgëL§, CA Posts: 5,314 | throw some pics on here of that turbo on your car. | | | 02-08-2006, 06:22 PM | #6 | Member Join Date: Sep 2003 Posts: 67 | I had the same problem. Your thermostat is under the hood, and if it drops, you will find your car leaking a lot of fluids, quickly. sounds like you need a new thermostat, though. When you change it, the bottom bolt on the passenger side will probably be corroded and might break. Mine did! | | | 02-08-2006, 07:48 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | See, here's what I don't get: Sparks is in OR, which is a pretty cold area. If it's just a simple borked thermostat, the needle should drop at speed, not only at incline. The incline would make me think that somehow the coolant is pooling at the front of the car, but that would make the engine heat up. Not to mention, the water pump should keep the circulation going. If it was air in the system (the only way a sensor could be partially covered), he should be reading hot. I'm not exactly sure how intercoolers are connected to everything, but I know they're meant to cool the air, rather than the block. If someone can enlighten me, we might be able to figure this out. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 02-08-2006, 10:28 PM | #9 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Water is a much better thermal conductor than air, so the sensor reading air/steam temperature could easily read lower than the actual water temperature. Think about sticking your hand in boiling water, then about having it just above the water... Which is cooler? | | | 02-08-2006, 11:58 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2005 Location: Bend, OR Posts: 413 | sparks. OR? what the hell are you doing there? That's the last place I'd ever move to...Pendleton, hermiston, or anywhere round there. I lived in Bend...so i know . i might be moving back to Bend though, so if i do, we'll have to get together | | | 02-09-2006, 12:14 AM | #11 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | I'd say a bad thermostat. Question: how difficult is this replacement? I'm not worried I won't be able to do it, just how long it will take and how much stuff needs to come off? | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
