Default check engine w/ low fuel

It only comes on once i get below quarter of a tank. I had it scanned once at autozone, and they told me one of the codes was a bmw only code, something to do with the mass air flow sensor, and the other was the egr. So he cleared the codes, and it was good for a while... I made it all the way through a tank of gas w/out the code. Then when that tank was empty i put in half a tank, and now i just got below the quarter tank line and the light came back on... Any ideas?

OBD II cars test the fuel tank for leaks via a vacume sensor (I don't know specifically if BMW does.) But if the O-ring on the fuel cap is tired or the cap isn't on tight it will cause a check engine light. My 95 is OBD I so I havn't bothered to figure out BMW OBD II.

On newer cars, you have to click the gas cap twice to ensure a proper seal.

its tight, i dont know why an egr and a mass air flow sensor would trip if it was the gas cap though...
