Default Swap large case 210mm M3 Euro diff in 318ti

Hi guys,

Been a while since a update, my 2jzgte 318ti has been destroying medium 188mm diffs (locked) and countless sets of axles. I've decided to get serious with the rear end.

I purchased a 99 model M3 euro spec diff and axles and thought I'd document the swap here.

So far a have fabricated the front diff mount, so the diff bolts to subframe, rear diff mount is underway.

Next step is to machine the ti hubs to accept the larger diameter M3 axles, will update pics as I progress

Interesting swap.

Why not just run Z3M axles and trailing arms?

How much power are you putting down?

Putting down 620hp at the tyres 26psi. The problem with z3M trailing arms etc is in Australia they are nearly impossible to get... I had been looking around for 12 months for a z3M rear end, but eventually gave up. I'm pretty capable and it won't be that hard to fabricate, and it will be strong

2jzgte vvti, single gtx4088r etc etc. it would be possible to do the centre conversion with the z3M axles/ trailing arms. Does anyone know the diameter of the z3M axles?

Ok, that's the same diameter as the 318ti standard axles I think? M3 euro has massive axles, the shaft is 38mm diameter, tapers down to 33mm diameter at the spline, also 31 spline axles (much like a ford 9")
Of all the axles I've broken it snaps them clean of at the spline going into the hub.

Default Update

Picked up my modified diff subframe from the powder coater this afternoon. Reassembled and all looks good. 210mm diff bolted in 318ti subframe. Now to get the hubs machined to take the larger axles...

Looks good. I'm interested to see the body mount you come up with for the rear.
