Default Oil Filter Housing Gasket

For those of you who have replaced the oil filter housing gasket, is it necessary to use a sealant (such as RTV), or did you install it dry without any type of sealant? I am getting ready to do this job next weekend. Thanks.

I'm guessing you're talking about the housing where it mates to the block? I did it without any sealant, and it appears to be successful. Just used a fresh OEM paper gasket.
