Any advice appreciated. Car has a small leak in the radiator, may need a new radiator fan, needs window regulator on driver side, and intermittently gives a fault for mass air intake sensor. Dealer quoted repair cost of $2700. Car runs very well, hate to give it up, but repair service has increased in the past year. Replaced rear wheel bearings 2 months ago for a grand. Worth repairing? Only 126K miles. Thanks. | | | 11-17-2008, 08:18 PM | #2 | Member Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: indiana Posts: 75 | dealer always charges more .. id find somebody on the side to do it for you or do it your self there are plenty of D.I.Y. forums out there .. i would keep it if i were you | | | 11-17-2008, 09:24 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2008 Location: Central Florida Posts: 678 | Keep it... All the parts you have listed are readily available on ebay...just type in 318ti on the search feature and around 500 + listings will appear. As to replacing the parts the one that would be tricky would be radiator, all the others are extremely easy to do... All you need is a little know how on working with tools and a bit of patience....plus a DIY guide to help you along... | | | 11-17-2008, 10:49 PM | #4 | Banned Join Date: Nov 2008 Location: LOS ANGELES Posts: 229 | KEEP IT! while youre at it id replace the water pump every 40k just to be sure. on my old M44 my water pump failed 3 times at intervals 40k 96k and 130k. that did some damage on my head which i had to bring to the machineshop... i got pissed so i just decided to do a swap. for a 1995 with 126k is pretty good. i have a 1996 with 211k on the body ans s52 with 40k.( still not done with the swap.... im still rebuilding the engine lol) ask for advice here with people who live in your area if they know a good shop to bring it. $2700 is steep for that. if you only live in socal you can bring it in my house on a week end and ill do it for free... | | | 11-17-2008, 11:26 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: Denver, Colorado Posts: 3,212 | Dude its a Club Sport all those things can be done and have DIYs. I got one in pretty rough shape too but since I have another ti, I'm keeping my Clubsport. __________________ McLaren F1 - BMW M Power S70/2 | | | 11-18-2008, 02:02 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Rocky Hill, CT Posts: 1,065 | I could swap all those parts out within 2 hours, it's all very simple. Mass air sensor is the only thing I'm not familiar with, but I'd venture a guess it's not hard either. Keep it, find someone local like me who does work on the side for parts $$. I'd probably charge $150-200+parts, so <600 total probably, and no car for a day. __________________ 1995 318TI base. 95 2.5L from 325IS. S50 cams+pistons, e36 M3 front brakes. H&R race springs F+R. Or ship it to me in Hawaii. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
