I'm a big fan of the repair manuals published by Robert Bentley. They taught me everything I know about fixing cars since I got the manual for my first german car, a MK2 Volkswagen. I have the manual for a few VW's and the E30 BMW. I'm going to be the owner of a 318ti in a few weeks once some title stuff is sorted out. I noticed that the e36 manual published by Bentley doesn't state thats for the 318ti. Do you guys just use this manual or is there a better one? | | | 06-24-2010, 08:27 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | The E36 manual will satisfy most of your needs. You can also get the Z3 manual that will cover the rear suspension. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 06-24-2010, 08:34 PM | #3 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | I use a combination of the Bentley, Haynes and writeups found on the internet. I've found most individual publications by themselves to be almost worthless and in some cases out right hazardous. I've stumbled across so many inaccuracies printed in the Bentley that could have caused significant damage and cost me a lot of time/money. It's always a good idea to check other sources and ask people who have actually performed the task before venturing into unfamiliar territory. Pelicanparts.com has a very informative tech article section as does 318ti.org's knowledge base. There's plenty of helpful information and writeups of first hand experiences posted in this forums knowledge base section. All in all, the Bentley is a good book for the beginner trying to tackle small projects. However, if you start working on something and the Bentley doesn't have the answer or looks unfamiliar to your car, it's best to just come back here, search the forum and then ask for help. | | | 06-25-2010, 03:01 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2009 Location: Orange County, CA Posts: 2,019 | i am just saying if you know how to use a torrent http://www.torrentz.com/d338339bc421...eedb3dac0e0754 just a thought. __________________ V2 in progress. The information in the Mk4 bentley is very accurate. Like Jesse said, there are some giant inaccuracies in the E36 version. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 06-26-2010, 06:09 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Westfield, IN Posts: 1,335 | I thought the Bentley Manual was a good source of info. Never bought one but always thought that way. I have a Chilton Manual and the 101 Projects for your 3 Series from 1982-2000. Very informative manuals. I look to buy the Bentley Manual soon and use that as well. __________________ Greg M42 Club member 186 WTB: HELLROT RED CLUB SPORT 95 ti sold but staying in the family. | | | 06-26-2010, 06:18 PM | #7 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2010 Location: Oakland, CA Posts: 25 | Quote: Originally Posted by eurohb | Zing!
