I waited a week and checked all the spark plugs, fluids, battery etc…but eventually gave up and decided to get it towed to the mechanic. But as soon it gets there, it starts up just fine. The same exact thing also happened in September. I just talked to the mechanic and he doesn’t really have much of an idea what’s going on, but thinks the process of getting it towed has something to do with it. Has anyone heard of such a problem? 1995 BMW ti Thanks | | | 12-08-2005, 07:25 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | How old is your battery and are you in a cold location? I'd check the water level if you can. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 12-08-2005, 07:59 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | Do you drive the car often? Do you leave the gas tank full? __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 12-08-2005, 10:45 PM | #4 | Junior Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Posts: 5 | The battery is fairly new, about 1 year old, and ya, I am in a cold climate (Northern Vermont). And both times it was fairly cold and I hadn't driven the car in a few days when it happend. Unfortunately, I can't really help either of these things. Either way, it's still rather odd that it mysteriously gets fixed once its towed to the garage. | | | 12-09-2005, 12:26 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | If you're getting a *clicking* noise, it's probably a battery issue. If it spins but doesn't fire, try the following: Get out and rock the car from side to side. What you're trying to do is move the gas in the tank enough to move the float up and down. There is sometimes a problem with corrosion on a sensor, and by moving it back and forth you can clean it off. It know it sounds silly, but it may work. I'm not entirely sure how the fuel system in the ti works (never had a problem) but I've done this successfully on a few domestics (Saturns are particularly prone to this). __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 12-09-2005, 04:54 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2004 Location: Virginia Posts: 368 | On the chance that it may be "flooded", next time it won't start try starting it while flooring the gas pedal. Might help. -Phil | | | 12-09-2005, 04:59 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | Quote: Originally Posted by vmw The battery is fairly new, about 1 year old, and ya, I am in a cold climate (Northern Vermont). Have you tried to jump the battery when it wouldn't start? __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 12-09-2005, 02:32 PM | #8 | Junior Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Posts: 5 | I did try jumping the car, but it was the same as before, it would crank and crack but never turn over. I think there is a real possibility that there is a fuel issue here. Either that or I may need a new distributor? | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
