Default What OEM parts to get to install coilovers

I'm in the process of redoing the suspension on my Ti. Being that I'm a learning noob I wanted to ask someone with a little more experience which parts I need to order to install my coilovers. More so I'm not 100% sure how it all goes together.

I'm posting the diagrams and the parts that came with my coils hoping that someone will tell me which parts I need to order and in what order they need to be assembled. TIA for all the help.

rear is simple.. take the shock top bushings off the old shock (13mm's to the body in the trunk/strut tower) put that on your yellow shock, use the concave washer (a) and install the nut on the stud to tighten it together.

front.. you dont have camber plates/pillow balls obviously, so you'll need a set of spring compressors to disassemble the stock front strut. you need the bearing plate from your stock struts.

from the way it looks, once you have removed the stock pieces you need.. install (a) and (b) then the bearing plate, and then the 2 nuts to hold it together. the bearing plate should rotate without binding even when it is tightened down.

good luck.. what kit is this? and how was there no instructions?

you'll probably also want to pick up some upgraded rear shock mounts, they tend to go bad with the stiffer suspension setups, bimmerworld.com has a few options

you aint kidding... my rear billstein (PSS kit) went right through the old OEM mount & straight through the shock tower, sound insulation & the carpet in the trunk! broke the old mount pretty much clean off... it sucked driving home with the top of the shock hitting the rear seat top mounting bracket & the speaker housing!

Go with the #1 strut guide supports from a 96-99 M3 if you are going to lower the ride height of the car. These will correct the camber and also add more caster than stock parts. These are quite a bit cheaper than a set of after-market adjustable caster/camber plates and will reduce wear on your tires.

For the front at the minimum you should install new top mounts.

For the rear new shock mounts, body gaskets, and you can buy reinforcing plates for the shock mounts (about $15.00 for a pair) from Bavarian Autosport, Turner, etc. They help to spread the load of the shock mount to keep it from tearing up the body. Turner also lists reenforcements for the front from the M's.

Marko, here you go! (I left the identical post on bf.c):

chrisbec has requested that BimmerWorld send you a message regarding the product Rear Camber/Toe Adjustment Kit - E30, Z3, 318ti in the BimmerWorld Online Store.

http://store.bimmerworld.com/Product889

Rear Camber/Toe Adjustment Kit - E30, Z3, 318ti
Full adjustment for your rear suspension that stays locked in place!

Whether you need to get your modified car back to stock alignment specs or you need adjustable suspension geometry on your track car, this kit will get you there. When the E30 rear suspension (includes Z3 and E36 318ti) is lowered, camber and toe measurements are affected dramatically - to the point that tire wear is greatly accelerated. Unlike eccentric bushings which fall out of adjustment (they all do), this kit with adjustable mounting holes and eccentric bolts will allow you plenty of adjustment - and it will stay there!

Installation requires removal of rear subframe and welding on the adjustment tabs. Floorpan may need to be clearanced for added adjustment range.

Kit includes 2 pieces, which is enough for only one location (inner or outer). When using one kit, plates can be positioned either up and down for camber adjustment or forward and back for toe adjustment. We typically recommend ordering 2 kits for both camber and toe adjustment.

Oh man that is sweet... well done.

I wish I knew this just a few days ago... believe it or not, just had the subframe crossmember replaced, for the fear of the old one being bent.

I'll still order the kit & wait to save up some extra cash for the retrofit.

Thanks man!

Nice, those look similar to the rogue engineering mounts that I have.
