No change in performance. Went to Advance Auto and had them pull the code, turned out to be the camshaft pos sensor and did a reset. Light came back on after driving 30 miles. How much longer can I drive the car before the sensor completely fails? Do I need to park the car. Any catastrophic issue if I continue driving while waiting for the new replacement sensor? Thanks. | | | 04-26-2010, 05:02 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | Could leave you stranded. It controls fuel injection. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 04-26-2010, 05:29 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | Thanks. So there is no limp home mode on the ti where it limits the engine rpm? | | | 04-26-2010, 05:31 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: 43609 Posts: 3,425 | It either works or doesnt. If it becomes intermitten, youll have random starts, crappy running conditions, etc. __________________ 1995 Hellrot Clubsport 318ti -Gone 1996 Schwartz II Sport 357ti - 5.7L V8 LS1/6 1997 Moregrun Metallic 318ti - Gone 1998 Schwartz II sport 318ti - M50TUB25/5 | | | 04-26-2010, 06:26 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: MD/PA/DC Posts: 1,629 | From the issues I'm having-depending on the code it gave you it could be the cam sensor or the crank sensor. Mine spat out a random cam sensor ckt code, it never came back- car ran great for a few days, then wouldn't start. Come to find the crank sensor went out. __________________ No more ti. | | | 04-27-2010, 01:06 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | Thanks for the info. I took the camshaft sensor off my old engine with 170k miles that overheated. Only took me 30 minutes to replace it. Disconnected the battery to reset the CEL, and test drove the car for a day and the CEL did not come back. So it must have been a camshaft pos sensor going out. The new sensor I ordered from Pelican should be here on Friday and all should be good. Thanks. | | | 04-27-2010, 06:20 PM | #7 | Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: N.W. VT Posts: 33 | Camshaft Position Sensor Yeah; I had a random CEL with the code for the camshaft sensor. I reset it and continued to drive then about a week later after changing the oil the car would not start, no code but I guessed it was the sensor. Got one from the dealer and replaced it car started right and has been running fine ever since. Ingore sensor codes at your own peril, the cost of sensor is about the same as the tow to get somwhere to fix it. Cheaper to replace and be safe. The computer compares the position of the camshaft to the crankshaft using the sensor outputs. Last edited by AquaCali; 04-27-2010 at 06:22 PM.
