Noob question: I currently have Sumitomo HTR+ 225/50/16, and I need to get new rear tires. What would you recommend? I am hoping for something less than 100 each...or a lot less than 100 each... I'm broke. I would like to start a poll, but I don't really know enough brands to start one. I searched but couldn't find a good thread about this, perhaps "tire buying guide" could be come a sticky? Maybe someone could also throw in some speed rating info too... Thanks, ahead of time! __________________ Silver 98 318ti Standard trans, Sport Package: 16" Stock Wheels, Foglamps, Sunroof, Heated Leather Seats, Bilstein performance shocks, OEM Sach's clutch kit, Dunlop SP Sport A2 225/50/16 tires, Alpine CDA 7894, Dual Rockford Fosgate 12" subs, Rockford Fosgate Amp, Leather Armrest, Replaced M44 engine with only 40k on it! http://www.geocities.com/evalha/bmwsmaller.JPG | | | 05-09-2006, 02:58 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Oxford, Ohio Posts: 868 | I need new rear tires, too. I've done a lot of research and have decided to get the Kumho Ecsta ASX. Tire rack has a nice comparison on their web site which shows the Pirelli P-zero Nero just edges them out. But for $33 less each per tire, I'll take the Kumho's. I have Kemho Ecsta STX's on my Mercedes and have been very pleased. So far I really like them, good handling quiet and a very good price. I did want to get the Pirelli P-Zero Nero, but could not justify the extra $$. | | | 05-10-2006, 03:24 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Halethorpe, MD Posts: 1,028 | I'll also recommend the Kumhos. The Ecsta ASX has been great on my wife's car and I've been using the Ecsta 712s for several years. I just switched to the Ecsta SPT and so far I'm very impressed. | | | 05-10-2006, 05:21 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Minneapolis Posts: 1,587 | My summer tires are Fuzion ZRi's and I've been very pleased with them. I think the 225/50-16s are $80 each at TireRack. They are made by Bridgestone in Japan. | | | 06-13-2006, 03:30 AM | #7 | Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Central PA Posts: 96 | New Tires Just replaced my Yokohamas with Goodyear F1's. Looked at all the ratings on Tireracks website, very aggressive tread design with all the right handling characteristics. | | | 06-13-2006, 05:01 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | I'm running the ASX as well. Previously, I had given them a bad review in the wet, but in a recent storm (the one that passed through Northern KY and Southern IN last weekend) I was thoroughly impressed. My only complaint is that now I have to go faster to make the tires squeal. __________________ I scream, you scream, we all scream for ZOMBIES. | | | 06-16-2006, 12:22 AM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: cary, nc Posts: 2,259 | i have the yokohama avs es 100s....80 per tire...i like them a lot....and they nudged out the kumho 712s on a tire rack comparison...but the kumhos are only 60 per tire...but the kumhos suposedly make a lot more road noise. anyway....tirerack.com is your friend! __________________ 1995 318ti Active Pioneer Speakers [] Aluminum Billet door locks [] ACS Pedals/Deadrest [] ACS Shift Knob / E-Brake Handle [] Clear Corners/Tails/Sides [] Sylvania Exterior Lighting [] Custom CAI [] Dinan Engine Chip [] Dinan Transmission Chip [] H&R Race Springs [] Tokico Illumina Shocks [] BMW X-Brace [] Relocated Lighter Mod [] Custom iPod Mod http://www.cardomain.com/id/robcarync | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
