Default Re-covering the headliner

Finally got fed up with the sagging headliner fabric. I just got done taking the headliner panel out - not a trivial job, but it went much easier than I thought.

My question is about cleaning and prepping the panel. I read the article on Pelican Parts, and it just says to clean off the old foam with a stiff brush. I did that, but there's still a sticky residue on the panel. Will this residue interfere with the new adhesive? If so, what's a good product for getting it off?

Also, I haven't bought the adhesive yet. And recommendations?
