Coilover Question

Suspension needs doing on my car, and I dont have the cash to do a bilstein on eibach kinda combo, so I've been checking out coilover kits..

Right now I'm comparing the kit that bav auto puts out for 700 bucks, or this:

sorry I dont have a link for the Bav Auto one, but their store is weird like that. I'm sure it want be hard for you guys to find if you've been to their site before..

Any comments on the Cosmo racing kit?

Keep in mind that's only springs (and cheapo ones too, probably) You'll need to buy shocks in addition. So add another 400 minimum for some performance shocks.

good call, the bav auto one come with shocks..that would explain the price difference.

What are you trying to do? do you need new shocks? do you want to lower your car for looks? or for performance? do some research cause you'll end up with some bad suspension and will not be happy with these cosmo springs.

If you're going to lower your car, change your shocks too.
If you just change the springs without changing the shocks...
Your old shocks will just blow right away.
I think the Bavauto one is good enough...
I got my H&R/ bilstein combo for around the same price I think...
but they aren't coilovers...
If your looking for coilovers, I think Ground Control coilover kits are pretty good, but I don't know about the price...

I myself am going with the H&R sport springs and Bilstein sport shocks also Eibach sway bars. This will lower the car a bit not too much, I commute with it and still want a decent ride.
Either way you're going to have to dish out around 600-800 for springs and shocks, if you want coilovers then a little more.

You don't want to buy that kind of coil-over. For exampe bimmerworld.com sells a ground control coil-over kit. complete with everything you need. the cheapest it runs is almost 1000 dollars. You don't want to buy just the sleeves and springs. Either do it right or don't do it at all.

coilovers are a waste of money! I spent $1000 on my FK coilovers and I'm not complaining about them cause I think they are awesome but I have not once adjusted the height.

Well pointless depends on how you use the car. If you just cruise around and don't corner weight, don't ever plan on corner weighting, or tracking the car then yes they are poinless.

If you do plan on tracking your car coil-overs are definately the best option for you. You can on some models adjust rebound and bump independently on all four corners. You can adjust ride height on all four corners. You can corner weight the car. You can swap out different spring rates. To sum it up you have many things to adjust on the suspension to fine tune it to work the best with your car.

By the way I have KW variant 3 coil-overs. I am very pleased with them.

I recently installed a set of H&R adjustable coilovers. The handling upgrade from even the Bilstein shocks & H&R race springs is very noticeable. Ride harshness is also way up though; for a daily driver I probably wouldn’t recommend them unless you opt for a set of coilovers with adjustable dampening, however, for track use they are a must in my books. It all boils down to what kind of driving you plan on doing.
