Depending on production date; it could be M42 or M44...

I'm not the expert on the fours; others here would be of more help...

The early engine is 1.8 liter, and the later one is 1.9 liter. HP and Tq numbers are the same for both engines.

The early engine is arguably easier to 'tune' as most were without the EWS system.

Wait for others to chime in...

I think that the HP numbers are the same for both, but the M44 has more torque.

The production is 09/95. Just found that out. The stickers are in terrible condition.

If you have a metal oil filter cover then it's an M42, if it's hard plastic then it's an M44.

m42 is 1.8 liters, m44 is 1.9 liters

both have 138 stock hp

m42 has 129 ft.lbs of tourque where the m44 has 133 ft.lbs of torque

not much difference really...

anyone know why the redesigned the engine to begin with?
