long story short, i ran into the ex gf of an 'acquaintance' over the weekend. we had a few drinks (ok, a lot of drinks) and we really seemed to hit it off. she wants to hang out again next weekend.

by acquaintance, we see each other because his best friend is a good friend of mine, so we do see each other from time to time at social events/picnics.etx, but we basically never hang out or call each other on our own.

They split up close to 2 years ago, and he's been with a new girl for over a year and a half, so i'm sure there's little hard feelings.

BUT, there's that rule... that you don't date within the circle.

Plus, they pretty much hate each other. lol If things turn out good, its going to be a pain going to mutual events with her as my g/f should it turn out that way.

If they hate one another then he should have nothing to say about it anyway, especially since there is what seems like no serious friendship between you and the other guy. Speaking for myself, in a situation like this I would say nothing to you unless my ex happened to be Asami Yamazaki from the movie Audition. Then I would tell you to run faster than Budweiser going through your digestive tract! After that, it's all up to you...

I was joking with my comment earlier. Seriously though, if she's cool and you think you guys are compatible, by all means go for it. It's hard to find a partner these days with the same interests and goals. Remember, looks aren't everything. Take her on a few dates and if everything works out and she doesn't show any psycotic behavior, perhaps she's a keeper

think about it like this.

if you date here , the odds are that you might break up with her is she isnt the one.. okay, everyone knows that, right?

but if you date her, and your friend gets upset with you, then you might lose your best friend.. and.. it might be next to impossible to fix the relationship.

i think u kinda know that since u had to ask a bunch of people u didnt know.. haha..

u can always find a girl.. half the worlds population are women.. but u only a have few best friends.. =]

if it were me, i think i would jokly ask you friend about it to see how he really feels.. even if he says its cool, he might have had some attachment to her...

I don't even see an issue here.

If you're both into it, for the right reasons then for sure. Any problems with either the friend or friend-of-friend will be resolved in time (assuming they are true friends).
