Default Stereo nightmare senario

99 E36 ti removed the original stereo [which only has a tape deck] and I discovered that in addition to the ISO loom and antenna there is a third single black wire connected..?

Anyone know what the purpose of this wire is..? As there is no place to connect this on the new stereo...

I'm going to have to put a jack connector also on the antenna cable as the bmw connector is totally different...

Nightmare? Sounds like a breeze as far as stero installs go

When putting a new deck in my friends Cougar, we ended up with 4 extra black wires from the original harness, all of which were grounds. The deck played fine and all of the functions were working so we taped over the ends and left them be.

The antenna problem should be easily fixed, just go to Best Buy/local car stereo retailer and get a BMW adapter... I'm sure they sell them as I had to do this with my Chevy.

Good Luck!

It is for the diversity antenna, the antenna in the side windows, it will work with out it though perhaps not quite so well. The main antenna is in the rear window.
