The stock heatsink will suffice. With that and the deals now it may be possible to move up to an i7. Also if no OC then no reason to get a Z87 board, since the 9 series is out now too. The H97 will be fine. Ram is fine and the SSD as well. It's not a monster machine so top tier SSD won't matter. I'd suggest throwing in a mechanical drive for other storage. Case is a good budget case. As for the GPU it really depends. There are some good deals now on the 290/X right now so you can jump on those. There is also the GTX970 from Nvidia. I'll look into the game to see if it pairs better with different drivers. CD is fine if needed, but I just use a flash drive to install OS. With that I would HIGHLY suggest 8.1 as your OS. I've used both 7 and 8/8.1 and prefer 8.1. If you miss start menu then get Start8. But the under the hood fixes and performance are worth it. Plus it will be supported longer. Seasonic is still a solid manufacturer but with the current deals any solid 500W psu will be fine. Get a modular one though, much easier and shouldn't cost more. I'll throw a system together tomorrow for what I would but right now. Also what resolution are you gaming at?

My preference stays with Win7 64bit Pro, Windows 8 isn't worth it for me, waiting for 10 to come out. Also as nice as SSD's are, they are really not necessary, a good 7200rpm disk with 32mb+cache will be fine. Agree with the OC part too, honestly the mobo can be kept simple since he really won't need any special features. Same with 500w PSU, that's going to be good enough for anything he will do.

1996 328ti - I will put together a build tomorrow or this weekend if I get a chance and send it to you - and post up here so others can give input and improves - a few minds work better then one. You also choose the right time to buy with discounts right and left since black Friday coming up!

That's great! I'm told a SSD doesn't speed the app itself.

It won't help increase your FPS (frames per second) in game, but what it does do is help cut down load times for anything.

Second link looks better but still paying for the brand. Nothing really wrong with that as you should get better support too.

Sorry for not being able to put together a build yesterday, but I will have one soon (next few days) - also keep in mind that Cyber Monday is coming up also so you might get some good deals there.

I was thinking I might want triple screens eventually but don't really have the money now.
And who knows if I'll loose interest in a month from now.

I'm not doing very well in iRacing. Part of it is hardware related. A small part.

Just finished it, shoot me your email so I can send it to you. I still need to find a way to post it up here cleanly. Total was ~$881, its a decent build and should be good enough, but you can always say you want to spend 100 more on graphics, or a couple dollars less on this or that.

So easiest way to post up was just to take a screen shot of the list. Again its a basic build but should do the job and is mostly good bang for buck.

Like mentioned above I can email you a direct link that you can click on and interact with more if so desired.

Oh, forgot to add a DVD drive - so at $20 more.

iRacing supports Linux, so you could avoid the "Microsoft Tax" and save money if you think you could handle Linux.

You might also consider getting a motherboard that can handle 2 graphics cards, "just in case."

True but add-on apps for iRacing only run on windows.

I was looking up iRacing specs and talked to a few racers. They say that iRacing doesn't need that high end of a computer to run smoothly with the graphics maxed out. There should be no need for a SLI or Crossfire compatible motherboard for iRacing. Being a simulation, it is more CPU taxing than GPU taxing. What Anassa posted up should be perfectly fine.

The CPU should include a fan/heatsink combo already. It will work fine. Buy any WiFi adapter during one of these Black Friday or Cyber Monday sales and it should be acceptable. HDMI output should be based on what graphics card you get, so read the specifications on it before you purchase it. I am pretty sure all modern graphics cards will have HDMI output now. You can pick what keyboard/mouse combo you want as it won't be important, or just use what you have currently.

The most important thing is to have a good steering wheel. I have an old Logitech G25 which I love. However, there are many companies out there making more updated wheels. The Thrustmaster T500RS, the Fanatec lineup and the Logitech G27 are very good choices and are regarded as the best currently. More budget wheels are the Logitech Driving Force GT and the more budget Fanatec choices. They are all pretty pricey, so pick one that suits your budget.

Can you share the link to it? CPU is 4yrs old - don't know how good it is though, and if what MINIz said is true about it being more CPU intensive you may want to go with a newer one.

Graphic card description is vague:
"AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series" - okay great, but what model is it? otherwise you won't know the amount of RAM and speed it has, or memory bandwidth.

Running RAID is fine - I am assuming its RAID 0 not RAID 1 , but if something gets corrupted it will be annoying, if you want faster harddrive and still be reliable there are 128GB SSD's in the $70 range that will do the job and have a regular drive on the side for storage.

I am getting the feeling that a pre-built PC is your preference? Which is fine btw.
