Factory Speakers vs. Aftermarket. Installed a new head unit and new rear speakers to replace my blown out stock 4" woofers back there. I used the ebay brackets to use 5.25" Boston acoustics. These are component speakers that came with crossovers and a tweeter. I did a few different tests with different configurations and found the best sound was keeping everything factory and just replacing the blown 4" with the 5.25. Not using the aftermarket tweeter and crossover. Basically in the end I just replaced the blown speakers themselves. The remaining factory speakers (6 up front, 2 tweeters in rear) do sound much better with much less distortion with the new Sony head unit vs. the factory stereo. I didn't want to deal with bypassing the factory amp. However, I may do this in the future. I bought two sets for the component speakers, for the back and front and I believe they would sound best without the factory amp. Better than the factory speakers I assume? I think with the amp the factory speakers probably sound best as they were probably designed specifically to work together. Anyhoo..just wanted to post in case anyone was in a similar situation. How difficult is it to bypass the amp? |
