Default Hey!

What's up guys, my name's Lance, I'm from Jersey. I've recently acquired a '96 Hellrot Red Ti, with what I assume is the Sport/Cold Weather pkg(?), as I have a factory LSD and a 5 speed with the M44 engine. I first met the car about 2 years ago when the previous owner parked it at my lot with the intentions on getting it fixed and on the road. By then I had experienced a few Hondas and daily drove a 06 330i (Sport, Cold Weather, Premium Audio) so the idea of toying with a BMW was cool.. and then I noticed she was missing a couple of inches. I never knew the Ti was a thing until then and it caught my attention.

Summer rolled around and I noticed the car was still there, I asked about it and was told it's not for sale, so i left it at that but I always kept an eye on it. The interior and engine bay were a mess, so my interest began to die down but I couldn't get over how immaculate the paint was. Another month strolls by and I get a call that someone vandalized the Ti by spray painting it. At that point, I had moved my attention elsewhere.

Getting to the point, 2017 comes around, winter finally stops, I drop by the yard again and my brother tells me the title and keys were handed over and I immediately got to work. I'll be doing write ups for the projects I do on the Hellrat (haven't come up with a nice name yet hahah, might keep Hellrat but the style I'm going for isn't "ratty").

So far I've done a brake overhaul and have everything I need for a Level 2 Inspection, (LOF, Filters, Fluids), few cooling system components (Thermostat, Water Pump), and the valve cover gasket set. Right now I'm in the middle of typing up the brake write up and planning out how I'll go about doing everything.

On me, I'm a technician for Hyundai, I have been in the field for almost 2 years now and I'm not a wizard or anything but I enjoy what I do and have made the effort to learn the right way to do things and I've always wanted to be apart of a car community and this seems like my best bet. - I am hoping to have a dd/track car with a 6 cyl swap, Hellrat is gonna be the freshest ti in Jersey! (Wishful thinking)

Thanks for having me, I've attached pictures.

Sorry, but it's not a sport. A sport would have the M3 Technic trim.
Inspection II and fluid is a good idea. As well as the cooling system.

Good luck!

This site (probably one of many) will list the options the car was built with if you enter the last seven characters of its VIN.

Cool cool,

You seem to be correct, I don't see any sport anything on the list. I figured as much without the m kit and cloth seats lol. The base look is kind of rubbing off on me I might keep it for now

I've been finally able to get the car on the road, most of my concerns address except for an idle issue...

I've come to conclusion that my idle regulators clearly bad, since I replaced all the vacuum leaks I could find (Injector 4 vacuum hose, PCV, Fuel Vapor Canister <-- installed new canister, rigged up hose since that new hose is $100...)

I'm at a loss considering the new part is $~300. Just posting an update in case anyone in Jersey sees me!

I also picked up some 16" Style 5s that I want to use as summer wheels, they're currently wrapped in 235/60R16 winters, gonna throw them on all the same just to see what it'll look like, do I need hubcentric rings for that though? They're from a 5 series.

I never finished that write up I was working on, life got in the way.

Anyway, follow me on instagram, most of the pictures I'd otherwise post here would be there: lancehlot

Default Hey!

Found the idle regulator on eBay for $15, hopefully it works. We'll see next week.

Thought I'd show you guys pictures of how she's currently sitting.

Originally the p/o had 225/60R15s on her, not sure if they misread the label or just wanted bigger tires. I ordered 205/60R15s, the OE size, for the fronts and also got new 225/60R15s for the rear, just to see what it would be like. I like the raked look but I feel as if there isn't enough meat on the front.

When the Style 5s go on I'm sure it'll look like a little monster haha. Going to get 225/50R16 summers for the the Style 5s next year. Maybe by then it'll have adjustable suspension too.

Anyway, that's all

Cheers

You have a stretched tire now that's why it appears not enogh sidewall. a 205 is meant for a 6.5-7.5 wide rim and you have an 8 inch rim.

What's next?

In my notes I want to
piece together a new front end (liners, nose panel, kidneys, non-sport bumper),
m style body moldings, CSL style trunk

I'm planning on babying the m44 til I can afford a parts car for a 6 cylinder swap
