Default Looking for Complete Exhaust

As long as i have had my 1997 318TI the Catalytic converter has been noisy and on the way out. And just today another joint in the exhaust, before the catalytic converter, broke. I figure now is a good time to replace the whole exhaust system. I would prefer to stay with the OEM exhaust system. Does anyone know where i can purchase this?
I have searched here and the rest of the internet and all i can find is a "Cat-back" system. I dont think that this will resolve my situation because now there is another exhaust leak that comes before the cat.
Thanks in advance,
DAN

im pretty sure if you want to replace the cat and exaust stock, you have to dig the whole thing out, from back to front, your better off just getting that stuff cut off and melted back on by midas

hello,
i think that the OEM exaust is too expensive

while for sale you can find the same parts, not original,
for 1/4 of the oem price...

goodbye

Guys, I have the same problem with my Ti .....the cat going bad and I was wondering if I can get only the cat itself without pipes and get it fitted and welded in.

http://replacement.autopartswarehous...verter&dp=true (the 2nd item)

the 3rd item looks like what I have currently

before you buy you should check out local exhaust shops. Midas installed a cat in my jeep for $20 more than I could buy a generic one online. Maybe they could do the same for the ti. Pick up the phone and give them a call, they'll give you a price over the phone.

Don't buy OE Cat. It's way too expensive. Go to a nearest muffler shop and have them weld in a Magnaflow Cat. an OBDII Cat costed me $260 including labor, OBD1 would be less. I passed the smog test in California.

96Ti and davendeb, can you guys give me links to the websites of the manufacturers you're talking about.

I went to www.magnaflow.com but I don't know exactly which one of all the cats will fit my 95' Ti - OBD I.
Thanx

I did not buy the Cat. online, so I don't know where to find it. I've always seen one on ebay for around $50 + $30 shipping; it looks like the one I have but not sure it's the same, so I wouldn't recomend ebay. Magnaflow is very popular, so there should be a muffler shop that carries it. Ask around.

The reason the BMW cats cost so much is that they are metal cats.
the cheap ones are ceramic and wont take the abuse the rpm's
of our motors would give them for as long as you would like
Yes any good exhaust shop (Midas is not one....) can weld in a new cat.

A good metal cat will be between 175 and 300 depending on brand.

From the cat back there is nothing magical about the BMW OEM
exhaust.

Example: I just put a complete new exhaust on my Jeep. It cost just
shy of 700 bucks to have it done, This was from the header flange
to the back, FlowTech Cat / metal , Upsize to 2.25 in pipe, Spintech Muffler.
Labor ate me on this a bit because a Jeep needs a LOT of bends
and I had a couple special requests that made it harder.

The 318 should be cake, its only got a couple bends and a easy path
to fit it into. Spintech sells oval pipe if yyou really want it tucked up tight...

pdxmotorhead this is exactly what I was wondering, Is it be posible to fit a universal cat in between the pipes. I don't wanna buy cat and then the mechanic to tell me "it won't fit". This is my concern.

BTW do you know info on

The pipe in our car is oval, the cat's is round. No problem, it took my welder like 2 minutes to make the cat's pipe oval then welded it to the original pipe. Only two cuts, no bending. Don't you worry about the fitment, but like I said before take your car to a muffler shop and buy the cat from them to get you peace of mind.
