There are like 6 or 8, 13 mm bolts and once those are out. The core will just fall out. Easy job. Just because the gears stay the same doesn't mean the new unit is the same dimensions as the open it is replacing. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 09-21-2011, 05:01 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Oxford, Ohio Posts: 868 | +1 You need to measure the backlash of the gears before the swap, then try to achieve the same amount after swapping the ring gear onto the LSD. You should also check the wear pattern on the teeth. In order to do this correctly, you will need some extra shims which go between the bearing housings and the cast housing. Even BMW needs to shim these to get them right, so no 2 are exactly the same. Don't touch the pinion gear. If you do you will be in for a rude awakening when you try to get the gears set up. | | | 09-21-2011, 06:00 AM | #11 | Member Join Date: Apr 2011 Location: Michigan Posts: 76 | Quote: Originally Posted by dave45056 +1 You need to measure the backlash of the gears before the swap, then try to achieve the same amount after swapping the ring gear onto the LSD.
