Default Shut off While Running

Hey All,

I'm new to the Euro scene (RIP MR2) lol, but I fell in-love with the e36, especially the 318ti. Anyway I'm going to look at a 96 ti that's on sale for a price I can't pass up. Only issue is he says the car shutoff on him while driving and now it doesn't turn on.

First thing that came to mind was the fuel pump failing. I wanted to ask you guys who have experience with the Ti as to what it may be. Does the fuel pump fail often on these cars? Could it be a important fuse I should check that could be blown, causing the car to not start?

I go to look at it tomorrow, and would like to have an idea as what to try and check.

I'm hoping this is one of those good finds that happens every 500 years. lol. So any input is appreciated!

Thanks,
Mike

Fuel pumps fail. You should at least hear it whirr when turning the key on.

I had a shutdown and it was a bad alternator. Not saying that's your problem, though.

sometimes the crankshaft sensor can cause the engine to go out if it looses signal
